Default weird sound

Recently, my mustang has been making some weird sounds. i have been told i need new gears, but to me its the tranny....but heres what it is....its a "clicking" sound...but its very loud. it makes the most noise when im in gear and the clutch is down. its like thunmp thump thump. i have no idea what it is and its very annoying. also, when i have my windows up, it seems awfully loud. idk if its jsut the normal engine sound but my engine is very loud and noisy in the cabin....it also makes weird noises when i take off the gas....help

Throwing a rod maybe? If it were the tranny you'd feel it more than you'd hear it.

I guess it could be the gears, but that's not a noise I've ever heard of coming from that. Sounds like a rod problem. Means that your piston rod is either broken or breaking knocking against the cylinder wall. Causing major problems. Most people find it cheaper to buy a new engine than try and repair it. But if you know what you're doing, you may be able to do it cheaper than having someone do it for you.

But again with the gears, you'd probably feel it more than hear it.

If the rod was thrown, chances are there's a nice "window" in the block.

Have you noticed the engine rocking? Could be that the mounts have gone bad.

^^^ Yeah, if the rod was fully thrown, you'd have that. But normally you get a knocking type noise before it gets thrown.

A thrown rod implies that it's broken. The noise you're thinking of is piston slap which is when there is excessive clearance between the cylinder walls and piston.

Just had a similar experience last week. My throwout bearing was going bad very fast! The worst sound was when the clutch was engaged and the tranny was in gear. It was a metallic screeching sound and loud! Replaced clutch (had almost 100K), but TOB was toast. Check for that?

The TOB shouldn't be that expenisve. The parts around 35 dollars, and the repair is fairly easy, all they have to do is pull the driveshaft/tranny and the bellhousing (Maybe not, they may just be able to pull clutch arm, and if they're good enough squeeze that thing out of it)
