Default pi head porting

im trying to get a hold of a pair of pi heads so i can send them out to get them ported at ether steen or livernoise im not sure, ill probably go with a stage 1 nitrous port job, will the stock pi cams be good or should i go with a more aggressive cam? im looking to spend around 700 for the port job and hopefully by november ill have the nitrous kit set up, anyway will i need a new tune for the ported heads? and should i get a 2000 stall converter now or wait ill i get the nitrous kit on?

why stop at stage 1?
more cam is probably a good idea... something like a VT stage 1 or a comp XE262 (if you've done a PI head swap or are doing that it will affect your cam choice a LOT... do your homework). Yes, you need a tune... this is major engine work not a bloody CAI. No tune is bad kharma.

Why did you choose 2000 for the stall point? Why not 2200-2400 or any other speed? Converter selection has a lot to do with how the car performs... just picking one is seldom a good idea.

Nitrous is a paralell mod. The rest of that stuff has little to do with when you install it. You do need to get a nitrous tune above all else if you're going to use it.

Converter should be one of your last mods. Dont even worry about it right now.

to start... I have to point this out: in your sig... brakes stop your car, breaks separate. I'm sure you're getting a cobra brake upgrade. Either that or the cobra's union has been working overtime to get cobra's longer breaks with free tea and biscuits.

now then, enough pickin at you. wait for everything else to be installed and tuned before you install the nitrous, get a better cam if you can XE262H should be ok or VT stage 1's.

For a stall converter... I'd probably be looking at something that stalls at 2200-2400 but I'd do the selection and install after everything else so you can pick the right one.

You go with a 2200-2400 and it really wont be any different then stock (stall wise), so I disagree there. But Im not going to get into that right now because he shouldnt be concerned about it now. So when you're ready, make a thread about it then.

isn't the stock stall @ 2400...i'd suggest more like 3200 stall.

yes... my reasoning is: you pick a converter based on where it'll start making power right?

A PI swap with stock cams and a nitrous kit says to me that he should get it to stall early and let him hit the nitrous with the converter already at 1:1. If he had more radical cams like xe274's or and/or 4.10's then I'd say he can pick the stall speed up a bit. Apart from that, he said it's his daily driver so I figured he'd appreciate a little more mild mannered street car.

Yes and no. Converter stall choice is based on max torque RPM. Its A LOT more involved then that though. You really need a expert to pick/ build the right converter for your application. There really isnt a big difference with a DD that has a high stall in it.

I have some PI heads that I'm looking to get rid of if you haven't located any yet. The heads are brand new. Let me know if you are interested.
