Default Cam Break In

Cams are being put on right now and I was wondering if they need a break in period?

2,000rpms hold it for few mins to let the cam get oiled up and the fallowers to get oiled up. Thats what comp says to do. For the last 2 cars i did cams on atleast.

when they install them they should be putting assembly lube or some type of oil between it and the retainers.I would even pour some oil on top before putting the valve covers back on. Cams are made different than the ones in the way past. you don't really need to much of a break in at all. Just start it and let it run at idle to let more oil coat everything and drive it normal for a day or two. even my cam in my 95, lubed it up, installed it, drove it normal and it worked great and the power was nice too.

thats what I did.. I couldn't find any specific "cam lube" at advance or any other auto shop so I just put oil on the retainers and on the cams

You can just use whatever oil is currently in your car to lube everything up. You dont need any special cam lube. Turn the car over a couple times by hand to make sure you dont have PTV or anything. Other then that, theres no break in period.
