I'm ready to buy a cold air kit for my 01 GT. I also want to buy pulleys right now at the same time I buy the intake system.

Question 1: What brand would you guys suggest in an intake system that would at least give me 5 hp if anything at all. BBK, MAC, etc.

Question 2: Are all pulley kits basically the same? I mean, does every manufacturer use the same recipe in size of the altenator, water and crank pulleys? I found a BBK three pulley kit for $136. This is the kit where I keep my stock dampner. Other than that, what's the difference in brands? Summit has a kit for my car for $99.

I got my kit from www.tunableinduction.com John Demolet, and he's a great guy and will answer any questions you have, plus the system looks sweet. My car came with underdrive pulleys but most of my friends go with Steeda. But...if you can get alittle more, i would get 4.10's as my first mod, you will really love your car after that.

 

i recomend the jlt true cai. also the only pulleys i would put on a modular is steeda. stay away from all piggie back styles for the 4.6

 

stay away from MAC, BBK, UPR, and all that junk. Buy K&N or JLT. Just buy steeda pullies.

 

Why are the Steeda pulleys prefered? What's the difference?

 

Hell instead of spending over $100 on some painted PCV tubing that will hardly gain anything, just make the CAI yourself.

 

4 in to 3 in, it's a durable plastic that stays cool not hot like the metal ones and i've had the BBK CAI and it gets hot. also the K&N FIPK would work. also if you need spark plugs, john demolot will give them to you for really cheap. i got my TR55's for like 5 bucks when i bought my kit. Tell him Travis with the white saleen sent you.

 

If you must do pullies, do Steeda pullies.

 

Yep 4:10's is the way to go.I would'nt even waste money on the UDP's or a CAI untill I done gears.

With the say $400 you spend on the UDP's and CAI and not really notice much of a difference you could do the gears and REALLY notice an improvement!!

 

Yes, gears are a must! I just want to get my GT to take a bigger breath of air for starters. And pulleys really seem to make sence to me. I will get 4:10 gears after theses two mods. I enjoy the high speed low RPM cruising I do here in SOCAL on the freeways with my auto trans. But if I want to kick everybodys ***, I know I need those gears!

Anyone have 4.10's with an auto trans? Besides the great acceleration,Hows the cruising speeds feel? Mark M

do you plan to get a supercharger in th future...if so dont bother w/ the pullies cause u need the stock ones anyways

 

IMO- The best bang for the buck would be the gears, I did just like you started out cai and pulleys and was not impressed to spend that kind of cash and not at least feel anything, so the next week I did the 4 10's and yeah baby was well worth the money.. if 5hp is all you want then either go with your plan or draft behind me and save the money

I also have the auto trans later when the wallet is fat either go all the way and get a lentech street strip transmission or at least PI Stallion 2800 torque converter trust me you will be sastified

 

No , I'm not going to supercharge. A torque converter helps with acceleration also. Mark M

Yes, that is why you want the steeda pullies. All the other companies make "piggyback style pullies". These types cause added stress on the crankshaft. They look ugly also. The steeda ones have a lighter than stock and one piece dampener. The pulleys are high quality and I havent had any problems out of mine. I did feel a little increase in power with them. The engine seemed to feel smoother afterwards to me.....
