Question X Pipe...Off Road or Catted??

I have a 2006 GT and was asking around about mid pipes..I'm going to go with SLP for my mid pipes but I'm not sure which is going to be better for me...I'm not sure if I should go off road or catted? Please help me out and give me some advice. Please send me a message with your advice and maybe other helpful pointers. Thanks

buy the catted x pipe because its modular and if its not loud enough for you buy the race pipes it will be cheaper that way.

if you have emissions to pass either go catted, or go catless and buy the cats to go in.

Buy the pipe where you can take the cats off if you want to. I would say definately get the O/R pipe but the you still have to pass emissions sometime....

Forget emissions, get your car privately inspected.

I have a VRS o/r X for my 2000 GT, and it is LOUD. Rivals a motorcycle and walks my next door neighbors 427 Vette at WOT. Grant it I also have LT's and Loudmouth 1's, but still, Offroad X's are LOUD either way you look at it.

Catted will refine the sound MUCH more though. So if your looking for a "clean" sound, then definitely go catted. I didn't want that "clean" sound, because I wanted it to sound like the 427 Vette... Thats why I went offroad. Offroad tends to be more choppy, but I don't get any rasp, contrary to what EVERYONE thinks. My car sounds like its cammed at idle, lol.

I am an o/r kind of guy, but definitely catted if you still want it relatively quiet, with a nice noise gain, and if you want it to sound "clean". Offroad X if you want all hell to break loose.

I get mine privately inspected right up the block from me. Its a Mobil gas station, but the guy who owns the property runs his own "garage" and he does state inspections. I slipped him some $$ the first time to pass me for my tints, and just 2 weeks ago he put my LT's and o/r X in for me.

So needless to say, Im pretty set with inspections from here on out no matter what I do.

Just find a place that does state inspections (ie. a garage or gas station) and ask them if they will pass you for having "no cats", "tints", etc. and tell them you will give them some money. You are BOUND to find someone who will do it.

Cash speaks for itself.

You car is inspected for the tint!? Thats crazy why would they check that? It has nothing to do with emissions.

You may have a friend that will do all of that for you, but most wont. These business owners arent going to risk a huge fine and/or lose their shop from breaking the law, just because you want O/R pipes.......

I had my pipe put on by a friend because absolutely NOONE in nashville would take the risk of installing an illegal pipe. The owner could go to jail or worse. If you found a guy then more power to ya but I dont think that any intelligent business owner would take the risk.

Agree with stan, get the cat-x and you can remove the cats when you want. SLP makes with( not sure for 05-06) race pipe that just drops in.

LoL, ok first of all.. I did need private inspection for tints, because I have a 15% tint all around on my car, and if you look up the rules for NJ, it says "NO" meaning I am technically not allow to have ANY sort of tint on the car.

Second, a shop owner will NOT go to jail for putting on a emissions illegal pipe. There is a $10,000 fine if he is caught. My installer just got rid of my reciept and told me if I got questioned to say I did the work myself.

And like I said, CASH TALKS... They know they risk, and they don't care. Im not saying every shop you talk to will do it, because most won't like you said, but there is NO doubt that you can find someone to do it because cash speaks for itself.

You can tint your windows in Jersey. Just not the front driver/passenger side. Hell, you can paint the back window BLACK if you want! LOL! That law does SUCK though! Tell me it doesn't drive you nuts when you see a car with NY plates and perfectly LEGAL freakin' limo tint all the way around! For the most part unless the cop wants to bust your "juevos" you'll be ok.

In Jersey, he's right, money talks! LOL! Must not be that simple to slip a guy a couple of dollars and go about your way in other states. But hey, you didn't here that from me.

why not do the planet a favor and get a set of high flow cats that probably come with the catted model. They don't make a big difference to a NA car and you'll be doing something to reduce pollution. Besides... then you don't have to be a criminal always worried that a cop will cite you for no cats after he stops you for speeding and notices how loud the car is.

just the sort of ignorant bullcrizap that causes little things like greenhouse emissions to spiral out of hand.

You may not have kids but, some of us do and they'll inherit the trash you leave behind, and some of the urban stupidity. Why don't you wait until you're something less than totally ignorant of the facts of the matter before you speak on matters of planetary importance. Save the rest of us your nonsense. Such a retarded statement as yours can only yeild a superior and condescending response. It worked well didn't it? Go ahead and respond and show everyone else your special brand of shortsightedness and idiocy.

This is what I decided to do after much talking with a performance mechanic at a local shop..
He adviced me to keep my stock Hpipe and free flowing cats and just go with a rearaxle exhaust system. He informed I should only think about an X pipe only if I was switching out my headers and going 3 inch pipes all the way out the back. So what I've done is bought a DynoMax Axleback Exhaust (after much talk with local clubs) and decided to get a JLT Performace Intake and Intake Spacer. Now with that being said I'm going to have to get my car tuned since the intake will cause my computer to think I'm running too lean. So needless to say I'm going to get a good hour or so on the Dyno so I'll see what I'm starting out with. With everything coming together on Wednesday, I should get an increase or about 20 to 30 WHP.
