Default Trying to decide what to do????

Well I've been wanting to sell my four-wheeler and buy a V8 and all that good garbage for my car, because the insurance on a GT is way too high. Now I have another idea, but insurance is still the problem.

I really like the looks of the 05-06's.... yea so you guys know where this is headed!

I could buy a new V6 Stang and drop the engine/tranny right away, but that would be kinda stupid as it would ruin that nice warranty Ford gives you. I would basically have a V8 Mustang for the same price as a GT, but I wouldn't want to wreck the warranty.

So, if I waited for like a year and bought an 06 or 07 Mustang GT, I could afford it, but the insurance for me is like 3-4 grand a year.

A lot of people on here claim that insurance is not a big deal for the V8's, it's only a little bit more, but mine is really expensive. I'm 16, no tickets or accidents, good grades, and live in Minnesota. Does anyone know of somewhere that I can get cheaper insurance? I really want a new Mustang GT but cant afford the insurance.

If there is no way around the insurace I guess I'll just have to live with putting a new engine in my 2000.

Could anyone who is 16-18 and has insurance on their GT please let me know how much it costs and what coverage you have? Also, are you the primary driver or is an older person considered the primary driver?

dude....customstang...listen....NOW....

getting a GT will NOT increase your insurance by very much at all.

With that said, of COURSE it will go up slightly bc it is valued higher than the v6, but you NEED to do some research bc saying that GT insurance will kill you shows that you havent even looked into it. Its retarded to put a v8 engine in the sixer. retarded. Even if you have a v8 engine, think about tranny...rear end...and just the overall quality of the car will still be sixer quality. It'd be a little better to put a cobra engine in a GT, but DON'T put a v8 in a sixer body. You'd hafta buy so many other things, and on top of it, you will have zero warranty. When you get the money, trade the sixer in, get a gt or cobra, and just make monthly payments. The money you pay for the engine/tranny swap wil be the extra money you pay to get the gt/cobra anyways.

Danny your point is well taken, but the truth is, the GT is faster, more expensive and therefore not just more coverage, but also rated worse for accidents... When i got my car my parents looked at the rates for both a GT and V6 and there was a 1200 dollar difference every six months...

I guess it depends where you live. My insurance for a 03-04 cobra was 100 more evey 6 months, and 100 less for a v6.

You're also not 16...

Through our policy, a Mustang GT would be 3-4K more per year than my V6. That's why I'm wondering how everyone claims it's only $120 a month.

But maybe it's only $120 a month because the 16y/o isn't listed as a primary driver, and that's fraud...

Mine's under my parents name as primary driver. I'm 19, no discount for grades, and pay a lil over 2K a year. With good grades I would save 480 dollars, trust me I know, cuz I use to get that deduction and now I have to pay for it

the insurance isnt more expensive neccessarily because its a gt. its mostly due to the increased price for the brand new gt. if you bought a gt that was a couple years old compared to the v6 of the same year you will not see much of a difference.

No it's not, I have already talked to the insurance guy. It's because of liability.

That would make my dad's Super Duty's insurance like $10,000 a year.

The rate hike is due to all the idiots in this country who think they need to sue anyone who looks at them wrong.

were the car compared the exact same years and options? I can see that difference between a 99 v6 and an 04 GT, but it also depends where you live and how your record(and parents' record) is. ALSO, its not true that GT's get in more accidents. Truth be told, most with v8's know the power and respect it while lotsa v6 drivers think their car is the junk and drive it crazy...which = wreck

it's because of liablilty yeah everyone knows that, but more important is the replacement price of a vehicle. my parents have 2 superduty's and a hummer. guess which one is the slowest? and guess which one costs the most to insure?

but comparing the price of you (16 yrs old) driving a gt to your dad driving a superduty is like comparing apples and oranges.

I'm not 16, but I just sold a 98 ranger (4 banger) and insurance was $600 yr full coverage, and my 99 GT is $950 a year full coverage. Those are two complete different ends of the spectrum car wise, and insurance is not that big of a difference!!!!

I had an 03 six cyl silverado, a base *** pickup. When I got the GT (2004) my ins only went up 20 bucks per month. Maybe its time to shop around for a new ins company....??

I never said GT's get in more accidents...it's 16-17 yr olds that get in more accidents... so it's a combination of things... And this was the insurance of my 03 V6 to an 02 GT that was on the lot... I live just outside MD in the 3rd Richest county in America...Prices are a lil high for EVERYTHING, just a little...LoL That was with Geico... now we have state farm i think and it's ALOT cheapers somethin like 150 a month for all 3 of our cars...

OK to settle this once and for all, here is an insurance quote

Comparing a 1999 GT to a 1999 V6.....set up as a 16 year old male, with no tickets and full coverage.

The difference is $505 a year. Only $42 a month, well worth the extra to get the GT.....

why does that say ~350 per month for the v6 and ~450 per month for the gt? wait, thats a 6 month policy not a year. thats not a difference of 42 a month.

lol, yeah it sucks to be 16. however. my insurance company (allstate) gives lotsa different discounts, one being good student discount which saved me literally a few hundred bucks each 6-month term.

Does anyone know of an insurance company that covers modifications??

I've once heard that Geico will cover ALL modifications done to your vehicle for another 10-20 bux a month.

As long as you have a recipt of your purchases (pics as well help) insurance will cover them (at least mine did).

About 2 years ago when I had my tahoe, it was broken into in my driveway and 3 TV's and my DVD Player were stolen. My insurance company paid to have it all replaced and even paid for the installation (ripped the headrests, shattered the dash that I just paid $550 to have custom built 1 week earlier :bash: ). They asked no questions and gave no problems! Just wrote me a check! But, like I said up top, I had recipts and pictures to prove I wasn't trying to pull a scam!

I would call them and ask about a scenario like that happened if you had your recipts would they replace it, most should.

Exactly my point. That's $100 difference every month. Now try putting a 2006 Mustang GT on a 16 y/o's insurance... Oh and don't put one of my parents as the primary driver because that's fraud. I'm the primary driver because i'm the only one driving it.

That's a difference of $505 in 6 months actually, so yea, try over $1000 more per year for the GT. Money well spent huh? Right down the drain...
