Getting Challenged on the Street

although the new V6 is a nice imporvement, it is by no means a supercar, just less of a 'grocery getter.' I love my 6 but its not a racecar! its my first car so its good looking and i can get used to stick (no, im not perfect when it comes to racing with stick ='( ), and it has a little kick so its not like i am learning on the slowest car possible, lol...

more with my focus
I have to say that I would recieve more races when I had my Fucus ZTS than with my 2001 GT. It seems that there are a lot of wimps out on the road and would rather smoke some-one than have a challenge. you never know if some one that has a better car than you, might miss shift and you win. Then thank of the brag rights that you get. Whether they mess up or not it is a race and you have to be at par. I have installed a MAC Off Road X-Pipe and Flowmaster Super 40 Mufflers. It might be too intemedating for some cars. It seems that the only cars that challenge me are other mustangs. However even with a few bolt-ons, most of them loose. Most are stock here in Virginia Beach, and most dont have any mony for a few bolt-ons. The factor of what will make me accept the street race challenges is when gas prices are not that high and if I have at least 1/4 a tank left.

While I am a deputy sheriff,,the only real race I can remember was against a jaguar a couple years back. It pulled pretty well, but I won. I normally dont do this type of thing, but it was fun when I did it. I don't really play that much on the street. I've seen way to many wrecks and have seen first hand what street racing does. If I do end up playing on the street Im usually by myself or its real late at night. That way,,all my buddies that work midnight shift are fast asleep!!!!

Just when I thought...
Just when I thought I'd seen everything, here's one for the books. I had an old full size Caprice taxi pull up next to me at a stoplight at 5:30 this morning, the cabbie hit the brakes, floored it, and did a right-rear-wheel-only burn-out!
Did this guy think I was gonna race him or something? Come on! Weeeiiirrrrrrddddddd!

i was driving home one day from school and we got into town (this was in the silver 01' GT vert i believe...) and a UPS truck revs his motor then yells to my bro 'wanna race?' of course it was all in good fun, and funny too =D

I had a guy in a SVT Focus pull up next to me the other day. Normally I don't even bother, cause gas in the SF Bay Area is crazy high, but this guy just kept looking at me like he wanted some. When we pulled up to the next light I looked over and said lets do it! Lets just say it wasn't much of a race, and by time I got ready to get out of 3rd gear it was pretty much over and plus I don't like going too fast on the streets. I'm just not sure what some people are thinking.

No way man, cops around here are pretty tough with even revving up on someone.. I ask for time slips or refer them to the next date our track is open if someone revs on me.. Too many random situations to trust street racing, never know when some idiot is gonna decide to cross the street or change lanes without signaling or whatever, you guys are crazy. :confused2

No, I hear ya man! It is crazy. I actually never take it past 3rd gear and do it when people are around. Mustangs have a pretty good amount of torque that can take care of an import right off the bat. See I don't mind doing the stop light thing if there isn't too many cars around, but I don't like doing it on the freeway at all. I might down shift every now and again to prove a point, but there are just way too many things that can happen on the freeway.

Here in VA Beach we go to interstate 561 which is a big strait away and only one spot for a cop coming the other way to turn around on. Four lanes of strait pure heaven. This is the best racing spot. Just have to make sure that you have 2 or 3 cars behind you watching your back. But other than that it is strickly the track. Cops and tickets are just not worth it.

Just Say No to Street Racing!

But that's not what this is about. This is about the goofy things people in other cars do when we encounter them on the roads while we're in our Mustangs. This is about the apparent perception that other people have when they pull up next to us on the street, either thinking that they're faster than us, that all Mustang owners are street racers, or whatever. Who knows what these people think? The cabbie I talked about earlier in this thread is a good example of that kind of story!
