Default Learning to chop

I was thinking of purchasing some photoshop software to start learning to "chop" pics of my car and other stuff. There is like a million versions, so which one would be best for a beginner? How long does it take to get good? approx $$$?

as far as abilities, i'm tellin ya Macromedia is about the top of the line...Photoshop is cool for beginners, but once you get into the full power of the Fireworks program from macromedia you can make some REALLY nice webpages.

Go with photoshop. There are a TON of tutorial websites online that you can look at and learn from.

I see Grimmz has mastered the double post.

you got it all wrong. macromedia programs are good for websites but he wanted a program to photochop pictures, adobe photoshop is the only way to go. photoshop is definitely not just for beginners.

but for a beginner there isnt much of a difference between photoshop 7 and the newest version. dont get anything older than 7 though.

See if they can get you a student discount, I know Macromedia and a couple other companies do that...
