Default Salvage Titles

What are you guys opinions on salvage title cars? If you found a great deal, would you ever buy one?

If the price was unbelievably low and I planned on keeping the car forever. Think of what the salvaged title does to the trade in value.

Id have to know why it got a salvage title. Sometimes, even if a car is just stolen, and stripped, but reassembled, it gets the salvage title. Id never buy a wrecked one or flooded/fire one.

You really have to look at the car which it happened to. It can cause you NOTHING but problems if it wasnt done correctly. It can also be an awesome vehicle for very cheap if it WAS done correctly. Its all situation dependent.

Like they all said. Just be smart. Sometimes cars get totaled for the silliest things especially if they are a bit older. If you were lookng at say a 1998 GT and juts the air bag went off, that might total the car.

I have a friend in town with a 2003 Mach 1. Car was totaled and put back together by a guy who really knows his stuff. Car has 6,000 miles on it and he paid 13K for it after it was fixed. He has had it for 3 months and it has been in the shop 2 - 3 times. one time it quite running all together. Turns out, someone put something in the fuel tank when it was in the yard before it got fixed. Sometimes owners do stuff like this when they loose their cars to get back at the bank.

Despite these issues, he is still way ahead of the pack. And since he paid a good price, the resale should not be a problem. If you truly plan on keeping a car like this for a long time, this can be a great way to go.

Yeah.. the main thing I'd be curious about is how was it salvaged and who did the repairs. If you're desperate for a car and the price just got be beaten it would be something to consider.. I'd take it somewhere you trust to have it inspected too, and maybe even a carfax report
