Default Low on gas.

Ok with all the crazy gas prices I know a lot of you, like myself probably ride on empty a lot or close to it for as long as we can. When I had an F150 someone told me it was bad to do that because the gas keeps your fuel pump cool and prevents it from getting to hot. Supposedly it shortens the life of your fuel pump if you do it continuously. Anyone else heard of this?

It is true that the fuel itself does help keep your fuel pump cool if your fuel pump is in the tank itself. If it is, when you run empty, there isnt any fuel in contact with most of the pump. The fuel helps pull the heat away from it kinda of like fins on a air cooled engine or a heatsink on a amplifier.

I hate waiting till it's empty to fill up...may as well do it when your below a 1/4 tank cause eventually your gonna need it anyway. Whenever I wait I end up being late somewhere cause I forgot to get gas.

Run the tank too low and all the crud in there will get sucked in the lines and clog your filter sooner.

I just wish my car would run so I could try to burn the pump up.

My moms new expedition has a readout on the cluster that says how many miles she can go with the amount of gas that is in the tank. You could run almost every drop outta that damn thing. (if it wasn't 65 bucks to fill it up)

Why delay getting the gas? Its just going to cost you more to fill up, but ultimately it makes no difference on how much you spend.
