Default PUlled over for Lic plate FRAME

So I got pulled over while driving on the highway on my way to work the other day. When I saw the blue lights light up behind me I was VERY surprised as I was going speed limit and driving normally.

Well I pull over and immediatly ask the trooper why he felt a need to pull me over. He said "I pulled you over because your license plate frame is covering the wording on the bottom of the plate. (Liberty For All) was covered. Now I could understand if MASSACHUSETTS, the plate # or the registration sticker was covered...BUT Liberty FOr All? COME ON!!!! Any ways he ended giving me a warning for it. FRIKKEN JEALOUS *** TROOPER Wishing he had a mustang..

Attached is a pic of my frame.
Today I made it a point to buy a thinner frame so I dont get harrassed about my Lic plate frame and now the trooper(s) can focus on pulling over speeders and drunk drivers....

Now that is the worst reason I have heard of pulling somebody over.

My friend's actually been pulled over for the same thing. He had a NY Giants license plate frame and I'm assuming the police officer just hated the giants because he said that he would get a ticket if he didn't remove it.

Yeah, that's a pretty lame reason to pull you over.

Its just funny cause I drive an 03 Lincoln Aviator as well as my stang and I have NEVER gotten pulled over while driving the Aviator, and I have the SAME frame on that one as well..

Its just ridiculous how these cops pick and choose who they FEEL like pulling over. Its just because I had a Nice lookin stang, and he was jealous and wanted to give me a hard time. He acted like a total Doush when he talked to me to with that Firm speaking voice..lol As if I was a criminal. I was so heated after.

Also, I must have seen like 50 other cars pass by with lic plate frames covering the wording on the bottom of the plate while he had me pulled over. I just lost respect for troopers.

I would have kept it on, document it, then if he pulls you over again and gives you a ticket. Take some pictures, write everything down and then take him to court. He'll be the one who ****ed up and could possibly get in trouble. I'd find friends with the same plates and what not.

We've had something simliar to this as well.

I actually just read MA state law on lic plates and it states that the plates MASSACHUSETTES, and PLATE NUMBERS must be legible. And the registration Sticker Must be in clear view. It didnt say ANYTHING about the "Liberty For All" wording on the bottom of the plate being visible. O well Ill just put the thinner frame on and see if he can find another dumb retarded reason to pull me over..lol watch it be the 3" ViS Cowl Carbon Fiber hood im installing in about 2 weeks..lol I aint bout to take dat off tho once its on..lol I attend to many car shows and feel the hood will help me WIN..lol

That's ridiculous. I know that in Texas, the Texas has to be visible. My liscense plate frame and a lot of the ones sold for that matter cover nearly half of the Texas, but I've never been pulled over for it. I think my Mom has though, the dealer's frame that the car was sold with mind you.

That would get you a ticket in Va. too. You have to remember that with all the budget cuts and ****, the little thimgs are being used to generate income for the local areas where these tickets are being written.

I understand that laws are in place for a reason. Even if some of them are to get revenue for the state,county,ect...... I just think there are a lot worse things that they could pull people over for. It is common to see people run red lights in front of the police and they just get away with it.

You've completely overlooked your upper hand here.

NOW is the time to call up the troopers office and let them know that one of their asshat troopers (provide his name) is apparently so poorly trained in the vehicle code for Massholechusettes that he's writing tickets for something that's perfectly legal and is provided for sale for use on street legal vehicles in your state. Let them know that they should probably get him trained and let him know that ticketing people for not displaying optional text is a violation of their 1st amendment rights and that the local chapter of the ACLU is always looking for some way to stick it to the man. Call from a payphone, do not provide your name.

Then, write a letter directly to the officer who issued the ticket. Include only a printout of the relevant vehicle code and a short note telling him to shove his warning tickets up his idiot *** and to try reading ordinances once in a while. Let him know that you're exercising your right to free speech by covering up the BS at the bottom of the plate which is not required to be displayed in your state and that any undue attention paid to you in retribution for noting his ignorance is criminal behavior under federal and masshole law and a violation of your civil rights.

You can also carry the statute printed out and stapled to your registration. Then when he stops you you can refer him to the attached statute telling him he's not only wrong but kind of ugly too.

No but I do get handcuffed and asked to have a seat over there pretty much any time I have a "business" encounter with the local stazi. A big mouth is a right and I use the **** out of it.

I'm really a lot nicer person on the intarwebz than I am IRL for the most part.

He was most likely just pulling you over thinking that once you were stopped he could see if you had anything else wrong with you car, such as bald tires, or something else. I believe it's called a pretext to stop.

Has to be a legal reason to stop a car though. Nothing is wrong with covering up the bottom of the license plate so he shouldn't get stoped for it.

I've read a bit about this due to the front plate law in Texas. There was a guy stoped for not having his front plate on his bumper, but had it visible on his front dash. Well, the cop found drugs in the car. Case goes to court and it gets thown out becuase the pretext for stopping the person wasn't justified becuase it's OK to not have the front plate on the bumper, but rather visible from anywhere towards the front of the car. Pretty crazy. The windshield cannot be considered and being an obstruction to the visiblity of the plate, since the driver has to see out of the car and all. I need to print out the law that states that and put it in the car, since I don't have a front plate on the bumper. Then again, I don't have my front plate visible from the front of the car either.

Im sure that was the case. He wanted to see if he could PIN anything else on me..Which he couldnt..

The thing that sux also was that the cop made me 10 minutes late to work that morning.

Im still not over this. I have a hatred for that trooper now.

I would blame the manufacturer of the plate as you can not cover any of the words or text on the plate..Its cheaper to make a rectangular shape then to have to cut around the opening for the screws.
