PS3 is full of win!
YEP!
The more i learn about this thing the more i love it.
I setup VUSE bit torrent on my laptop, clicked on a button, and it shows a PS3 folder and my PS3 instantly reognized vuse!
So i downloaded an episode of Man Vs Wild and put ti in the PS3 folder and Presto! I can watch it on the plasma through the PS3, streaming it from my laptop.
So then i downloaded AVARTAR. lol... it actually looks pretty good too! some of the highlights are blown out and some detail is lost but it is in 720p and very viewable.
I also ordered a netflix account, waiting on the PS3 install disc it should be here by tomorrow.
Im gonna have to sacrifice my cable tv here soon, i have to get the wife an apartment. money is gonna be a bit tight so im cancelling my cable, but im going to keep the internet. Once manage to get HULU open for my PS3 then i really dont need cable tv for the most part.
its amazing how all these devices work together.
when i was a kid we had 13 channels and they all stopped broadcasting at midnight
lol

Thanks for posting the monthly PS3 vs Xbox 360 thread. ha ha ha.
I have nothing against PS3, in fact I would have purchased one if they weren't so damn expensive back when they first came out. Soooo I got an xbox instead. I think PS3's are better in terms of bang for your buck, but if all you do is game I still think xbox is the way to go.
I grew up in a rural part of Northern Cali where we were outside of the city limits so we didn't have cable until I was in high school. Man, I remember when we got cable.....greatest day ever. I must have been the only 16 year old that watched G.I. Joe everyday. Oh, and don't get me started on the scrambled **** channel. ha ha ha

Not to say anything against the PS3, but many things do this now as long as you have it setup right.
Not bashing the PS3, its just that theres so much stuff out there on the market of electronics that few people realize everything that these electronics do.
DLNA is the ****. As far as being able to watch or listen to anything, anywhere in your house as long as whatever you have in your hand is on the same network is the ****. Can't wait until things like HULU and Netflix kill cable companies. Satellite is still worth it hands down, because you're not affecting your internet.
Now only if they'd run fiber optic to the boonies, and have a wifi that could effectively transmit it without slowing it down to the equivalent of a tortoise compared to what it should be. Ahhhh, that would be my greatest wish ever.
My geekiness is starting to shine a bit here. Lol.

the only other downfall is no backwards compatability and it matters alot to me because its annoying using two systems to play games when i know its capable of it. But other than that I cant think of any downfalls. It's much more portable than the old system. BUT the slim does get annoying when it gets warm as u play games because the plastic will pop and crack because its heating up. If your gonna get a PS3 nows the best time, and dont waste the extra 50 for the 250gig model because u can buy a bigger HDD later down the road for around the same price and just slide it in.

08mustang_gt yeah there are other devices that do a lot of this stuff. My parents just bought a wifi blueray that does netflix, pandora, youtube and some other stuff.
it just depends on what you end up getting.
you are right though, there are tons of devices that allow you to do all this stuff, but a lot of people have never seen the capabilities of them to understand how awesome they work.

i have a 40 GB model. i got it last year at tax rebate time. i don't play it much, so it still works perfectly. how do you get your PS3 to view your network folders? i have a networked home internet (through a wired Linksys router), but i have no idea how to get to my network folders.
i guess i'll fiddle with it a bit today, i was playing a bit of Gran Turismo 5 demo. i love it.

My buddy had his PS3 go bad again. Talked to this guy that said he could adjust the system to keep it from overheating....cool right. Easy fix for $20.
Well....what the guy didn't say was that he was turning the internal fan up to max, ALL THE TIME.
This thing is louder than a freaking washing machine when it turns on. IT WORKS, but it sounds like a ******* mini-rocket is taking off in his living room.

I just bought a router over the weekend and set up my windows network for the PS3 and x-box 360. I watch 1080p movies through the PS3 streamed from my laptop...no more 15" screen when I watch TV shows now! I also have net flix HD on the 360. Glad I finally got this thing totally worth the 49 bucks for the netgear router.
I still havent bought a game for the PS3...probably wont for a while.

There is an option in 'Network Settings' called 'enable media server' or something similar. Turn it on. Put files in your Shared folder on your computer and your PS3 should recognize it. If it doesn't, you need to change the settings around for your router. Or if you use Vuze, open Vuze and your PS3 will instantly recognize that.
Depending on what you want to stream, go to the MUSIC, VIDEO, or PHOTO section of the XMB, then scroll all the way up to 'connect to media server'
