Default thinking of getting a truck

i want an F150 4x4 for under 2500 bucks ish. some of you that know my current situation know that my mustang is just about done in the transmission department, and i need more reliable transportation this winter. my mustang only has 1st, 2nd, and 5th. i would specifically like a F150, but if some of you can come up with a 4x4 truck (auto or manual doesn't matter) that is 2000 bucks or cheaper and reliable, then bring it on. i found some decent trucks around Columbus, but if you can find a better deal, then i challenge you. reason why, is i am getting 5000 bucks (before taxes) from the national guard, and i am going to use that money to get a truck for this winter to survive the snow. it must be 4x4. i learned my lesson last winter, i am not gonna make the same mistakes.

If you want reliability you really can't go wrong with toyota.

i concur badfish. when i was in California, we used old *** Toyota trucks with 5 speeds, those things were tanks, and we off-roaded them ALOT. i might consider a Manual taco, or something like that. but i still want to stay ford, unless i find a better deal. (i assume the tacos have good gas mileage?)

yeah I get around 20 mpg. the only thing I don't like about my truck is it doesn't have a v8. that would be sweet

damn that was fast.

yeah, there is only one taco within 25 miles of columbus, and it has damage and rust from 1994 to 1997. 13 F150's are within the same distance and years. doesn't look good for toyota.

the lack of a V8 is also a difference, but gas mileage is better. the truck still has some getup (guessing around 200+ HP?)

so, i searched some autotrader. i have narrowed my choices down to a few.

truck number one

truck number 2

truck number 3

truck number 4

truck number 4 is a bit rough around the edges, but it's the cheapest and it is still 4x4. if it is a solid truck, and it doesn't fall apart when touched, it may be the best deal. i love the other green ones, a nice single cab. the black/silver one is a nice supercab, 5.8 liter engine.

I have a 6 cyl..

Check out 85(?)-95.5 Toyota Pickup. (not tacoma) those things are effing bulletproof, look good, go anywhere, and get good gas mileage.

Man my very first truck was an 82 Toyota 4x4, it had the 4 cyl motor, 44's, 4.88 gears, dana front and rear, and like 12 inches of lift. It was a beast and would pull a damn house through the mud. Only thing i didn't like about it was that there just wasn't any room in it. When i buy another truck its either gonna be a Lightning, or an F350 4 door 4x4 diesel. Best of luck on your truck search.
