Default MMA style training.

so a fitness gym is offering MMA training... my neighbor and i are thinking about joining to just get in shape. i already know how to fight, grapple style, but i think it will just broaden my style and get me into shape a little faster than just working out by myself....good idea? lol. i am visiting the gym on monday to decide if it is worth it.

anyone deal with gyms and mma style training?

Great idea! It's getting very popular lately. I've been doing a Muay Thai class for a couple of weeks and it's freaking awesome. Just do the trial class and make sure it's the right style of training you want to do. Be wary of gyms who don't specialize in MMA style fighting. They might just be offering some half *** MMA class to try and cash in on the recent popularity of it.

sounds cool, Maybe you could learn some pressure point moves to stave off a bigger guy who wants to plummel you. Any kind of defensive techniques will be to your advantage, You could get good at it and try out for ultimate fighter stuff. Live with the other potential UFC hotheads and get free liquor, J/K. It sounds like it will be a workout though, which is good...

Its a great way to get into shape, or stay that way.. also awesome for cardio.. just depends on what you want to do..

I used to go down to a place called "Eric Nolans Kickboxing" for a while and did Muay Thai..and when my brother was in the states a little juijitsu..

Actually when I can I'll go back to Muay Thai..hopefully it'll help me put on some weight again..

Its cool and all, but its not really the fastest way to get into shape. I would hit the weights, do cardio, and above all eat CLEAN. That is how you will get into shape and it works every time and depending on how disciplined you are, it can happen quickly.

some of the guys u work with do this...a couple are fatties in air force terms but have better cardio than i do. if you want to get in shape but not get bored while doing it than this will work for you. the best way to get into shape is to eat right control your fat intake and lots of cardio with some light weight training. i feel if you lift heavy than you will turn that fat into muscle and not lose any mass at all.

if rolling around with sweaty men is your thing and want to lose weight by doing it, i say go for it.

Lifting heavy will help you burn more calories as with more muscle means you burn more calories, which is nice. However its hard to put on muscle and lose fat at the same time. It can be done, but it takes a good diet plan.

I do however like the cycling classes at my local gym. Makes me go do an hour of hardcore cardio.

anything that makes you lose weight, slim down WE is good, but if you can find something that accomplishes that and you find interesting then all the better cause you wont get bored with it like weight lifting sessions or jogging and stuff. I say go for it
