Default Dear Bestbuy of Longmont, Colorado...

Dear Bestbuy of Longmont,

You suck. I am not a big gamer, but a game had been released that I was quite excited for and because of one of your wanna-be-thug associates, I sit at home empty handed and very upset. I had gone out last night to wash my car for the first time in months thanks to income I have received from my new job, and needless to say I was happy. For the first time in at least two months it was finally clean, but because of this "I'm such a badass" associate failed to adequately check what items were in stock both at the Longmont, Colorado store and other stores that are in moderate proximity of this pitiful excuse of a town. After calling ahead to your store, this associate (who from this moment on will be referred to as WillyWonka) sent me to the Boulder store assuring me that this game that I have been looking forward to will be there when I arrive. Well, after driving for 45 minutes in rush-hour traffic and rain (remember how I washed my car? NOT COOL.) I finally arrived expecting this game to be ready for my arrival only to be let down by another dumbass (who I will call Slappy). Slappy said that they have no record of even pre-ordering the item that WillyWonka assured me that they would have. So after already wasting 45 minutes of my time in rush hour traffic to get there, I then had to turn around and drive another 45-50 minutes in the rain back to my pitiful excuse of a town empty handed. So now, as I sit here at my home I think to myself that I have just wasted approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes of my day, 1 clean car and overall about a quarter tank of gas (thanks to traffic) because of your dumbass employee, WillyWonka. Now I don't expect anything to be done because of this, however, should your managers decide to punish this WillyWonka character -- Please take him out back and "Ol' Yeller his ***".

Thank you,

/rant

Actually, some stores get the games before-hand and aren't allowed to put them out till the day of. The same thing happens when you order one and have it shipped to you. Usually, UPS gets the item a few days before the release date and they won't deliver it until the day of release.

How many of you have worked in retail? Just a question?

Everything we do depends on our shitty computers. If the computer says we have some, that's all we have to go by. Physical counts happen all day long, but things like customer orders, pre-orders, online orders, phone orders, and theft keep the numbers fucked up all the time.

Not saying WillyWonka didn't do a shitty job, but honestly its not a life dream to sell **** all day long unless it's your ****. I love my job, other people hate it and those are the ones who give bad impressions.

I get a good laugh out of it nonetheless, but people who say "Every Best Buy employee blows, or doesn't know how to treat customers has obviously never worked in a selling retail environment.

Best Buy is the only place I know of that exists as a large retail company who has employees (maybe not all of them) that honestly have great knowledge and care about customers. I have had guys tell me that I taught them in 30 minutes what would've took them weeks to find out over the internet, and probably find out wrong.

Don't complain about "shitty" service just because they don't give you a reach-around or kiss your feet. I can tell you by the people I talk to all day long that no one respects what we do. Whether you believe or not our job is hard. I use to help lay hardwood floors and if it paid well enough I'd much rather do it than sell TVs to stingy *** old people all day long and deal with the **** we do.

I know certain Best Buys blow, most of them do. And most people hired there don't "need" a job nor do they really care about it. But, there are people who could tell you more about computers/laptops/televisions than you'll ever know or ever find out on the internet. Because we live it every day, but no one believes that.

**** happens.

08mustang_gt,
I worked in retail (albeit office supply stores) for 3 years, so I know the sort of stuff that goes on in a general sense when it comes to retail sales. I also worked in the electronics department for three years, so I was dealt a similar hand that any and all bestbuy employees are dealt on a daily basis. I know the customers are shitty and don't understand a lot of what is involved. And with my past in electronics retail sales I can say for sure that "every bestbuy employee blows" (give or take one or two folks who genuinely care about customer service). And sure, **** happens...duh. But this **** would not have happened had WillyWonka actually done his job and called the store to verify what the computers say (which actually is the protocol in this type of situation which was made to avoid situations like I had today). Retail work is no fun, I know...but don't come into here thinking that your oh-whoa is me retail story is going to win you any brownie points. I know the job - customers suck, but the actual job isn't that hard...even for a stoner, punk-*** like WillyWonka.

You didn't understand my point at all, but whatever. You're right like always.

Soon enough you'll buy all your **** off the internet and have no ******* clue what you're doing nor will you have anyone to help you, no matter how minuscule it is.

After working in retail for QUITE a while, I have learned the following things:

1) Everyone wants a handout, a price knockoff, whatever. If you came in the store without having enough money to buy said item, dont come to me and beg to suddenly drop your sales price down to a managable sum for you. Thats just bullshit. Save up a little more, and buy your items then.

2) People treat you like ****. Working at AM taught me this quite well. Remember a long time ago when those 17x10.5 Anthracite Bullet wheels were out of stock for about 4 months? I took heat from almost EVERY customer who called up to check on their order. We brought in containers of wheels, and all we had to go by was how many we were projected to get in, and many times with that situation there enough wheels to go around and people began to complain about our service (which was way OVER par for the **** we got). Now, I understand the fact that yes, you have a choice to order with us, but dont come and complain to me when I, nor my supplier, have the wheels and everyone gets them from the same factory. Wanna bitch? Complain to the Chinese factory, see how long it takes you to get your wheels (Answer: Longer than it would take if you just sat with your order and dealt with it).

NOTE: This was prior to the real time system that is now in place.

3) People with a time crunch on their hands are the WORST to deal with. I had people calling me up for weddings, proms, etc...ordering just a few days before the prom and expecting everything to be honky dory, when they didnt check to see if said item was in stock and so forth. People who ordered wheels were obviously the worst. Yes, I understand you paid $500+ dollars for a set of wheels. No, yelling at me or complaining that they arent there wont get them to you any faster.

4) Most customers are very stupid...VERY VERY stupid. Those who do their research beforehand and actually look up information tend to be better customers because they know what they want.

5) The majority of people are VERY cheap. Now, this tails into number one, but if you are going to buy new wheels, get new tires that fit. A 245/45/17 will not fit properly on a 17x9" Rim. Quit asking me 3 times if it will and expect me to suddenly change my mind. It doesn't work like that.

6) The better you treat your CS rep, the more **** you might end up getting. I never minded giving 5% or even 10% off to people who treated me like a human being, and were generally nice people to deal with. Those who pissed me off or treated me like a ******* lackey got no breaks with me.

7) A return or RMA takes time, especially with a mail order company in a small business setting. I got to stuff as fast as I could, but after a while, some things just flew in too fast and under the radar for me to get my hands on and turn around quickly. Cross-shipping rarely happens unless WE made an error, and in that case, we will gladly assist you...but complaining about your order to me that you fucked up and expecting me to pull a rabbit out a hat and send a new wheel out to you, while you hold part of our inventory, sorry, that isnt happening. Nor are we paying for shipping. Suck it up, admit your mistake, move on.

8) If I make a promise to you and I break it, my bad. You have full right to yell at me and I will do my best to fix it, but remember, I cant work miracles. I cant just call up Ford and tell them that XYZ customer needs this now, can you send it to them, even if you dont have it in stock. I go by what my system says I can go by, and if it so happens that we have said item in stock, I will gladly ship it out to you that day. (See point 11 for a possible reason for this scenerio)

9) No, UPS cannot move any faster, stop asking. If you wanted a faster delivery, spend more money. You got free shipping anyway on ground for something that costs an fuckton to ship (See: Wheels, exhaust systems, etc) so stop complaining that things never got there in time. If you wanted it by a deadline, you should have called us up and asked.

10) Asking to speak to my manager when something is out of stock will not get it there faster. See points 9, 3 and 2.

11) Warehouse people are human (although in some cases I have seen, superhuman) and they do make mistakes. They work hard to make sure everything comes in properly and is shipped out properly. Sometimes counts get off on wheels, accessories, etc. If it occurs, don't complain to me that we don't know how to do our job. How many times have you screwed up counting or lost count. It happens. Get over it.

12) You are not a super special person because you think you deserve special treatment. There has been ONE person I have given special tratment to, and that was Alice Cooper, who ordered a set of wheels from us while I worked there. I think I went down and handpicked his wheels for him. Going above and beyond for people is rare, and when it happens, be thankful. Otherwise, sit down and quit acting you are above everyone else. Yes I appreciate your business, but acting like an *** doesnt mean you get anything special, and acting like my best buddy doesnt mean you get a handout.

13) Manufacturers make mistakes. It's not our fault (Case in point, the first run of 2k5 Mustang Bullet wheels). We will do the best to rectify the situation, but in cases like that, it is out of our hands. Once again, stop asking us to perform miracles to suddenly fix everything. I cant add 1/4" of offset to your wheels by creating metal out of thin air and adding it to the wheel. I am only human.

I always lived by the mantra for the majority of CS cases (and still do): The customer is normally wrong, but I'll fix it anyway.

So remember kids, when you talk to any retail CS rep remember the following: Yes we do want your business, no we cant work miracles, and sometimes we make mistakes, especially when people are just learning. Don't be a **** towards us, and we will most likely go beyond what you ask for. Generally, CS reps are nice people and work hard to make sure that stuff gets done, but your attitude plays very largely into how well we can perform our jobs.

I worked in retail once I turned 16 and stayed in retail for a good 4-5 years. Worked in a music/movie/game store. The computers are never accurate, but that doesn't mean you can't get off your *** and physically look for the item. Or call the other store and have them physically look for it too. Just as a side note, games are pretty much always released on Wednesdays and music/movies on Tuesdays. A lot of times if you see the date for a game fall on a Tuesday, that means the ship date. Next time, check Bestbuy.com and see if its availble at your store. Thats fairly accurate. Customer service at Best Buy has gotten better than it use to be, but there are still a lot of douches who don't know ****.

My only experience with best buy has been when I went in already with extensive knowledge of computers (I work in IT). I knew exactly what part i needed but the employee was adamant that it would not work and I needed something else. I finally relented and bought what he told me and when I went home it didn't work. Came back and bought the card I wanted and sure enough it worked. Needless to say, I try buy everything online now. It's usually cheaper and I don't have to deal with that crap.

A) Do you have a Gamestop( www.gamestop.com ) in your town? If so thats where you should have gone to reserve the game.

B) The bestbuy in my town will have things in stock and then tell people that they don't, I know this, i've had multiple (former) employees tell me. specifically they do it when items are on "in store sale" because they will tell people that they should come back when more are in stock but really when they aren't on sale anymore or they tell people to buy a similar product thats not on sale, plus the sale brings people to the store which is what retailers want any way... but i rarely ever shop at bestbuy anyway because i've never had a "best buy" there, its always cheaper online.

Of course it's cheaper online. EVERYTHING is cheraper online. For one you don't have to pay for warehousing, or for a employee to sell it. But with things like TVs and computers where do you return it? You ship it back, no. What if it breaks, you pay out the *** to go to a private shop and have it fixed.

I could buy groceries online for ***** sake, but that doesn't mean its a better deal exactly. Would you buy a car online if you knew that when something went wrong you were S.O.L.? Whereas if you buy it from a dealership you get their guarantee (not saying its always that much better but it does help).

Like Shambles said, everyone who comes in wants a "deal" or says well I can find this online cheaper. Then ******* go buy it online and don't waste my time. If you came in wanting a deal you better hope its on sale or you're not getting ****.

Actually I ONLY give deals to people who DON'T ask for them, and if you come in saying well Amazon has this for $200 less then go buy it from Amazon. When it breaks don't come bitching to me, or when you get shipped a totally different TV than what you paid for (seen it happen from Amazon) don't come to me saying I got fucked. Because all you did was go **** yourself.

Some people are too ignorant to understand that. And that is where natural selection kicks in. Thank you Darwin.

Ill just chime in as a Best Buy employee. The store I work at has a team of well-developed employees who strive for professionalism (or the closest thing we can get to it working at a retail store lol). I HATE when i go to a Best Buy and i have the same experience you do King.

As an employee, I avoid putting a customer in the same situation you were in. I work in the video games, and games are sold out all the time and I refer my customer to another store. I dont simply check the computer, like ***** did, I call the store who says they have it on the system. By calling, I ask them to PHYSICALLY check if they have the item and put it on hold for my customer. Its alot of work for the little paycheck i earn, but I think its only fair that i don't make someone else waste their money.

As a customer at Best Buy and other similar stores, I INSIST that the employee calls and makes someone physically check my item is at the other store. Of course, an employee like ***** will get all disgruntled and will give you attitude. But at the end of the whole experience, he can blow me because I dont have to waste my time and money because of his stupidity.

again, sorry about your experience King. I feel your pain.

**** happens and they run out what can you do.

They do get games days, weeks, months in advanced sometimes though. My friend works for gamestop and they get games most of the time weeks before they come out. In fact little big planet for the PS3 had been sitting in the back for 2 weeks when Sony recalled them because someone complained that there was religious music on it. They had to send them back to SONY and still got the new shipment of Little big planet days before it was due to come out.

He usually gets to get the games days before hand because his boss is really cool about it. Such as the new batman game, he had already been playing it for 4 days before it came out. Thats some cool **** right there.
