my xbox died. it got an e74 error message which is a general hardware failure...aka Red Ring of Death but only shows up 1 red light. luckily its under warrenty....unforturnately...i have nothing to play tomorrow when i come home from getting my wisdom teeth out.

my friends xbox just died and he sent it in and he got a new one back in 2 weeks, it took me two months......

 

I dont know one person who hasn't sent their system back. 360 FTL.

Btw the way. Don't pay for shipping. Make sure they sent you a box. If they don't offer you one then ask for one and they will give it to you.

if anyone gets this error (e74) it is now covered under the extended warranty as of 4.19.09. my original warranty is out but the xbox limited 3 year warranty is not. so it is classified along with the red ring of death.

3.8...funny thing is...it happened last night and i hadnt played fallout for at least a day and a half. now i have to wait 2-3 weeks. or just steal my buddies 360 since his house hold has 3... lol

 

you might be able to take it to the store you purchased it from for a replacement. My sons on his 4th X-Box, and Best Buy just gave him a new one each time. His last one is now over a year old with no issues yet..

 

HAHA, i have 4 Sega Genesis systems that are well over 12 years old, and they still work perfectly. i have a Dreamcast almost 10 years old, works just fine. PS2, still working just fine. Micro$oft makes shitty products. Windows is a fine example. i laugh at people who buy Xbox 360's.

that means i laugh at you. haha. my PS3 has yet to fail.

(just kidding about that laughing part. but 360's do suck.)

 

Everything that goes wrong with these Xbox 360's is heat related. The E74 error is the scaler chip problem. I am on my 5th XBOX360 . Do yourself a huge favor and get an upgraded Talismoon fan, not the intercooler, when you get your new one. It costs about 30 bucks and you'll never have a problem again. Trust me.

 

My friend has had several issues with his 360 but he always looks up the problem on the internet and fixes it himself I have actually seen him sodering on the damn thing and some how he always manages to fix it

We are on our second system here. Had to send it in twice to get a new one though. Not impressed. But the boys are addicted.

You're PS3 has yet to fail because it's probably not played half as much as people who play 360s. PS3 sucks and the games suck with it. And yes I've played both. My friend has both and I have to say I don't find one of their exclusive games fun.

microsoft is repair/replacing it for free. my 1 year warranty is out but it is covered under the extended one.

my ps2 failed more times than my xbox has. when i still had ps2 i was on my 5th ps2. i also hear that ps3 has a shitty blue ray lense and it fails all the time.

i plan on getting a 20 gig ps3 when the new batches come out and upgrading the Hard Drive to a 750gig or 1 terabyte

 

I got a xbox 360 when they very first came out and it has yet to see the red rings of doom but i hardly play it anymore since i recently got a ps3 and a wii. I CAN'T WAIT FOR UFC COMES OUT ON THE 19TH!!

 

Ive been playing the **** out of new ufc demo. Its full of win.
And the oly ******* reason Id ever get a ps3 is for metal gear solid 4. But Ive already beat it a few times......before I deleted my game will all my saved up dp on accident.....never got the ****** ivisible camo!!!!!!

the main reason i got the ps3 was for the blu ray player but it is a pretty damn awsome system with the browser and such plus idk but the graphics seem so much clearer than my 360 but that may be also because my 360 is pre hdmi cable hookup so its working of the 5 colored cables

 

*ding* PS3 FTMFL. The only reason I ever dealt with Playstation in the past was because of games like Resident Evil, but those games are no longer exclusive to that system. So no reason for me to deal with Playstation anymore. And FWIW, it only took me two weeks to get my XBOX back after it failed. Been over a year now, and I haven't had any problems so far.

 

my xbox controller just died, after 1 year and a 5 months of forza and all the other racing games i play the right trigger is done.

time to head to walmart tomorrow.lol

Yea Microsoft actually is ten times better than Sony.

Hmmm...let's see the only reason the Plasystation ever survived is because it was cheap and because of it's system-specific games (Resident Evil, Final Fantasy, etc.). But the PS3 is almost double the base price of the Arcade 360, which by the way has the heat issue fixed, and the system-specific games blew Sony off because they wanted to get paid DOUBLE the money they were getting paid to host their games.

Hmmmm...yep looks Microsoft sucks it up. Except they're fixing all of the faulty 360's for FREE. Yet, when the PS3's blu-ray diode goes out it's a $90 part without installation.

The PS3 is amazing, but Microsoft is still ze winner.

My son's done this 2 times, sent it in and they fixed it. Crashed again, now he has a Playstation 3.

 

So he downgraded, eh. I think it's funny that Sony still won't lower the price of the PS3. They just keep discontinueing models and then replacing them with new ones. It looks like they are already creating a PS3 slim which they deny. Oh and Sony reported their first fiscal loss in 14 years. 1.1 billion and they expect to lose even more next year. I think the PS3 did them in as well as Samsung taking away a lot of their electronic sales.

 

You might be right about Sony and Samsung. . . . Hell its about time Sony got kicked off the top. To me Sony has been on top of the electronic goods for years. Though most of you wont remember this but I THINK their first "mega hit" was the "WALKMAN" back in the '80s. IIRC that thing was as hot as the IPOD is today. That kinda catapulted them up the chain. After that, I would say mid to late '90s or shortly after the first Playstation they started gaining big ground in the TV wars and knocked Pioneer out of the top rankings. Then shortly after the turn of the century, Samsung starts getting really high tech with their goods and starts gaining market shares. You are probably right. . . . It IS about time a new "electronics king" steps up.

These are just my opinion of quality / sales rankings about who was top dog and all. and I just might be wrong on some other stuff too. Its just the way I remember things in the past.

 

I remember the walkman, I had one. I do remember to though that a lot of my Sony products broke rather quickly. They did very well, but the quality still sucked. I've loved all my Samsung stuff

 

Sony has always sucked in quality. They're so high up on their horse that their TV's are priced $400 more than the equivalent Samsung, but yet they say it's because there are high quality parts...HA.

Funny thing is, our PS3 display at work has been sent out for replaced 5 TIMES! While the X-Box just red-ringed like three days ago when it's been out there since it was first released.

Our Sony TV's always get returned from random stuff like the TV not responding to ANY remote and the screen turning blue after 1 week.

They believe that their customers have "loyalty", but in this economy and democracy "loyalty" doesn't even exist.

Poor Sony....

 

The funny thing is, I believe Sony uses some parts from other brands in their stuff. I know some use to have Phillips parts in it I believe. I would say for the Sony equivalent of my 52" Samsung 1080p LCD, it would be almost 1k more.
