Default Computer problems

ok, so i have a Dell m1330 laptop. i have had it for the last year and a half and it has given me nothing but trouble. for some reason, the cpu has been running @ 100% at start up. i started it up and left it sit for 30 mins to see if it was just somthing that just happened at start up...nope, it was still @ 100 percent.

i bought a 320gb hd so i could have a fresh start and a larger hard drive. ok, got vista loaded and im still running @ 100%. not only that, but it has just turned off 3 times on me randomly, no shut down sequence at all.

im now reloading vista onto the old hd just incase i had any viruses, though i didnt find any.

oh, and this computer is completely able to handle vista, it ran like a champ for about the last 5 months or so.

i also store nothing on the hd cause of things like this. i have all of my stuff backed up on an external.

im half tempted to just sell the stupid thing and buy a mac, my roommate and a bunch of my friends have them and they have no trouble with them at all. except for one, but he has an old macbook that the power input is shot.

If you look in the task manager is there a process open that is hogging it all?

I personally hate Vista. Your LapTop might have virus's on it without you actually knowing or old virus's that are now attacking your computer. You should just nuke the computer and re-do everything. If not I can find you this program and you can run a test off it to find out the problem. It cost money, but I can by-pass that.

Start
RUN
type MSCONFIG
Go to startup TAB and uncheck everything
REBOOT and see if it makes a difference

Make sure your laptop temperature is correct, go to BIOS or CMOS setup at startup and check temp. If its too hot it will run slow and have many issues. I personally dont like Dell as they use inferior parts as thats why your able to get it so cheap. Thinkpad (Ideapad) FTW

Make sure you are in a flat surface as working on a bed causes it to heat up as intake vents on bottom of laptop gets blocked. Place laptop on a solid cool area.

They aren't going to FIX it, they're just going to build a new OS (Windows 7). Vista is a P.O.S. in itself. There are so many problems with it that they try to hide. Purestang this is a problem that vista has had on dells. We just had about four get returned at work from Christmas because they've been running too hot, which is close to what you're saying.

Those laptops have a overheat sensor that causes it to automatically shut off to save itself from ultimate meltdown. That's probably why you're getting the random sudden shut-downs. As for a way to solve it......put XP on there until they produce 7. It won't allow you to use as much RAM as vista will, but it also doesn't hog the **** out of it either.

I would not personally go to a Mac simply because the capabilities and software available for each are different. You can always partition the hard drive and run both mac and windows, but idk that you'd want to do that. Hopefully you can get it fixed.

buy a laptop cooling station! Also, do NOT leave the laptop on all the damn time. Alot of my users do that out here(Iraq), and it drives me up the wall. Or they will use the laptops and have them sit on top of a towel on top of their desk and then the inlet for the fan is blocked and it overheats that way too. Being data sucks...

Thinkpads are the best vents are on the side and rear not under the laptop.

+10000 standby mode does not mean that your computer isn't running like many people believe. I hate having to explain to people that the power button is there for a reason

Not saying that you don't know that, just a short rant. I had some lady yell at me yesterday saying why do they even put it on there then....lol

the more i work in this MOS...the more i hate computers. Keeping it cool is half the battle....just remember that. Hell they have computers with liquid nitrogen running through them to keep them warm, that should tell you something.
