thanks!
and yah just 3 pics. its been too damn cold to go out shooting lately. especially since i watch the boy before i go to work in the evening, i dont wanna cart him around in the freezing cold.
lol
i have my eye on a new lens and a couple slave flashes, im looking forward to getting those so i can play around with them a bit.
and im gonna be honest here, i did do a little bit of photoshoppping with the crow. lol.
yesterday i saw about 20 of the bastards gathered on a manhole in the street, i grabbed my camera but my door squeaked and they all flew off into the trees, i only managed a couple decent pics before they all were little black dots.

sounds like you've been at it man. do you crusie any photography forums?
I almost wish I had gotten a Nikon, the stock lens has a lower fstop. my lens's fstop sucks. aperture can make or break a picture, I have essentially none.

there are 2 lenses im dying to get, however neither will autofocus on my D40. Lookin at a Nikon 70-300mm telephoto, and also a prime 50mm 1.8f
the autofocus versions would be about $500 each, if i go the non-autofocus it is around 300 for the pair.
autofocus would be nice, but i would rather save 700 bucks and do it manually. Plus later down the road if i upgrade to a D80 or something it will AF on all the lenses. besides, right now my 18-55 and 55-200 both autofocus

Yeah, that used to happen to me all of the time. The picture would look badass on the D40's screen. But suck on the computer. Lol

i think ill leave both my current in Manual focus for a few days and see how well that works out. If i have too hard of a time doing a manual focus and nailing the shot, ill probably see about getting the Sigma 70-300 apo hsm lens which will af on my d40
as for the 50mm 1.8f (serious bokeh bro) i think i will be fine manually focusing on that one.

Keep in mind, make sure you are shopping through a licenced Nikon Dealer. When i was looking to buy one i was digging around oneline, i found Nikon D40's and D40x's for way cheap. The website would claim "Nikon D40 USA with USA warranty" for like 300 bucks. So i would order it, then the next day they would call me up trying to up-sell me on **** like...
"you need filters because the camera wont function without filters"
"You need another $50 battery because the battery with the camera lasts like 2o min"
"You need a protection plan buy up because nikon customer service sucks"
"you need a new lens with this because the stock 18-55mm lens sucks)
... the camera does not need filters of any sort, the stock battery is good for 1000 photos before requiring a recharge, Nikon has excellent customer service and the 18-55mm lens is about the best bang for a buck you will ever get.
Then they get all pissed and ask you if you want to "Upgrade" to the american version!... wait what? I ORDERED the american version, they say "No you ordered the Gre Market Version" the AMERICAN version is an extra 150 bucks!
Of course by then you are getting pretty ticked off because the website damn well said it was American Camera with American Warranty. By this point they are already very rude and chances are you will cancel your order, or they might cancel it for you.
Its these Jackasses from brooklyn. Watch out, if the Nikon D40 is under $400 bucks garauntee you will go through this. I went through this exact rigamoral 3 times before i said **** THIS and went to circut city and bought it cash for $450 plus an extra 100 for the 55-200mm lens.
FYI, Grey Market camera's and lenses are made in the same factorys as the american cameras. HOWEVER, if you buy a grey market camera that ends up being from ******* bangledesh, and it stops working, you have to send the camera to a ******* bangladeshian and have them send the camera in for warranty, plus, you have to have a reciept in bangledesh in order for the warranty to work.
So, Grey market lenses are a good deal for the less expencive lenses, but with camera bodies do NOT buy grey market, besides, the manual will be bangladeshian
My rec, if you go online, order from Wolf Camera, Ritz Camera, NewEgg, or even Adorama. Adorama does sell grey market and refurbished equipment as well as new and used and they are very clear on what is NEW vs GM, refurb, used.
It is an awesome camera, it consistantly puts out pictures as good as its big brother the D80, however it is somewhat limited in the range of flexability, but for a novice or amature a Nikon D40 offers a great camera with more than enough flexability and quality. The kit lens 18-55m is an awesome lens, and most of my pics are done with this lens.
I reccommend getting a 55-200mm AFS VR (Vibration reduction, very important) lens whenever you can as well, they can be bought refurbed for 139 at adorama camera, or about 250 new from wherever.
You will want a spare battery, the onee with the camera is great, but you will need a spare, look on amazon for a place called "Batterys for less" or "Batterys for cheap" i picked up 2 EL-9 batterys for 8 bucks including shipping, the ones with Nikon stamped on them are 40 bucks each. The cheapos are every bit as good.
just make sure it is thee VR model anf AF-S on any zoom lens.
Good luck, and if you get one you will NOT be disappointed, the D40 easily hangs with $700-$800 Canons or Pentax cameras.
And from time to time you will hear people (usually canon owners) who mention the D40 is only usseful for point and shoot and is only one step up from a disposable camera. Well, it doesent take much effort to see the quality of pics the D40 puts out, the people talking **** are just mad cause the D40 outperforms thier $800 canon.
