Finally decided to kick the habit
Started smoking about 3 years ago, the last two being a pack a day of marlboro reds. It's been 12 hours since I've had a cigarette. Hopefully it was my last.

Hookah is just as bad if not worse than smoking cigarettes, stephen.

Indeed, it can be if you make a habit of it. I used to smoke, quit a few months back, but I hadn't been smoking for as long.
When you smoke hookah, you usually go to one of those bars where you are exposed to it for long periods of time, hours even. Whereas when they are at a club, they go outside for 5 or so minutes and have a cigarette, then they are done. Just don't make a habit of it and don't be putting any wacky tobacky in there! lol

It's a tough habit to break. I smoked for over ten years and at my peak was up to 2 packs of cowboy killers a day. Considering I couldn't smoke at all around the aircraft, I was pretty much a chain smoker. I quit when I had my first son and he's fifteen now. I smoke once a year at an all woman retreat I attend with friends. But I still get cravings, it's a constant battle, but it can be done.

thanks guys. its been about 27 hours...this is tough, but doable. For those of you that quit, when was the hardest part? Some have told me its the first 24 hrs, some have told me a few days in it gets tough.

The hardest part for me was after meals, driving (my car wouldn't start until I lit a cig) and of course when drinking. I pretty much quit drinking at the same time. Don't go out with your smoking friends when they take a smoke break, the temptation is awful.
I know several people who have used chantix to quit successfully. You only take it for a few weeks and it helps you get a jump on quiting. But it really depends on the side effects you get.
Good Luck

Good job on trying to quit. All it took for me to know that I would never smoke was watching my Grandfather suffer and die of lung cancer on a hospital bed. Everytime I see someone smoking I think about it, I won't touch a cigerette. I hope you can quit.
