New Engine Options For the 2010 Mustang?
Friday January 25, 2008
In a recent Motor Trend article by Matt Stone and Mike Connor, the magazine hints at the possibility of new engine options for the 2010 Mustang. According to Future Shock: 2010 Ford Mustang, Ford might be working on a plan to add the new twin turbo EcoBoost V6 engine into the 2010 Mustang. The reason behind such a move could be due to the recent CAFE law ruling which raises the bar to a 35 mpg average for automotive fleets by 2020. The engine is set to debut in an upcoming performance version of the Ford Fusion. Now get this. Depending on the specifications of the new Mustang's design, the EcoBoost V6 could produce up to 415 hp with torque that matches the existing V8 Mustang. So what about the existing 4.0L and 4.6L engines? Well, the article notes that Ford would most likely keep the 4.0L engine in its lineup, unchanged. Better yet, a 5.0L engine would return in place of the existing 4.6L engine. In all, three engine options would exist for the basic Mustang lineup:
More likely is a 5.0 liter version of the current 4.6 liter V8. Horsepower would be higher than the current 300 hp setup and utilizing some improvements seen in the 315 hp Bullitt Mustang, could produce up to 350 hp.
We’d like to see the 3.5 liter 263 hp motor from the Taurus see duty as the base V6 motor or at least bridge the gap between the 4.0 liter V6 and 5.0 liter V8, but sources suggest that the 4.0 liter will soldier on unchanged due to its price point and use for rental-fleet Mustangs. But with potentially equal or better gas mileage than the 4.0 liter, it would be nice if the 3.5 liter was used for retail and the 4.0 liter as fleet-only.
There’s even talk that the 3.5 liter EcoBoost turbo V6 could be offered alongside the 5.0 liter V8. While four different powertrain options seems excessive, 200-hp, 263-hp, 340-hp and 350-hp versions would make for some interesting choices.

Yeah. I think if you're part of the Mustang Club of America you get to watch streaming video of the unveiling at a designated area in your town (or close by). I just figured I'd keep on hitting refresh on LLN

What suck is that I'm getting my wisdom teeth pulled at noon here so that's like 2 eastern time and that's when I heard it's scheduled. And they said I'm getting Vicodin after it so I'm going to be all loopy and crap and am going to miss the whole thing!! I'm pissed.

Eat a pineapple right before you have to start fasting it will reduce the amount of swelling you get and yes I am being serious

Glancing through I find a few items I like and a few that raise questions.
I like the cheep upgrades for HIDs and nicer brakes, that hot.
Engine cover, standard? Tire pressure monitoring system, also standard? What the heck is an easy fuel capless filler?
I think I answered my own question.
(Thats a ford GT, but the idea is most likely the same)
