Calling computer people
alright so I know nothing about computers. I'm able to pay to download songs onto my computer but the problem is they are downloaded as wma files. I want to get them on my iphone which I need mp3. I tried downloading something to convert them but it says the music is protected or something . Does that mean I'm out of luck? I think its stupid its protected if you buy the music... What happened to the 90's before all these downloading rights happened haha

Are you buying the songs from iTunes or Rhapsody or something like that? If so, they may have them write-protected and you may have to "hack" them.
If you're ripping them from CD's you've probably just got something set up wrong in the properties. You can rip music from CD's into Mp3's or Wma etc.
You should be able to open the music with Windows medis player and either export or save them as Mp3 files with no problem though. Not sure if this helps any, but that's all I've ever had to do.

Usually once you put a WMA file into iTunes, it converts it for you. I know it's done that for me many times. Just like WN said, if you are ripping a cd onto Windows Media Player, you can change the settings to rip as a mp3

Yeah I tried just sending them into itunes but that's when I get the error saying: iTunes can only convert unprotected WMA songs (f`in microsoft). I've been using Ruckus which is similar to iTunes and Rhapsody. I guess I'll try to burn them to a CD and then try and transfer them back to the computer without them being protected.
01FR500 - I'm always to nervous to use those p2p things on the school networks. They go after you for that stuff especially when we have to use our login ID's to access the networks.

I would be very wary of using either frostwire or limewire to do anything on your PC. That **** is loaded with crap that will change your registry stuff. My son has his new PC loaded with it, but before he got his PC he loaded it on mine. It took me forever to rid mine of that limewire crap.. Filesharing= Bad IMHO..

Ummm protected files have nothing to do with microsoft first of all....and second of all p2p isn't bad if you have a good enough security set-up, which most people don't they think if they but Norton's or whatever that their computer is invincible. Lemonwire doesn't mess-up anything unless you download **** or other movies, especially when they're in zip files because of ghost files. You will need something to get rid of the protection on the wma's, like what doobie or jseven said just burn onto a cd and then rip back to your computer, but rip it as mp3's so you don't have to worry about conversion and it taking up more space. And save it as the highest quality bit-rate you can, you'll regret it if you don't. Hope that helps.

Torrents are soooo much easier and no viruses and crap. Download something like Bittorrent, then all you need to do is search google for the band you want and then put torrent after it. Go to the link, click download torrent, and your Bittorrent will start downloading the file and you will have mp3s.
