Thumbs down CameraAddict.com and TECHONdigital.com FTL!

Cameraaddict.com blows. Careful if ordering through these guys, they may not send you what you THINK yer getting.

I went to thier website, found a refurbished nikon D40X for $362.00 the place is verified through google and amazon, i figured the place is pretty legit, they have tons of good feedback.

So cameraaddict.com calls me up today to verify my order. .

during the call to confirm the order they of course tried to sell me more ****, and i stated to get annoyed, then the guy asks if im sure i want the "Grey Market" brand cause he can send me the US version for $500, and i was all.. wha?...

he explains to me grey market is a rebadged item that is sold overseas. The camera they were trying to sell me was in all japanese, with japanese menu's, japanese warranty (have to send to japan to fix), and japanese manuals and literature. it IS a Nikon D40x, but made for japanese consumers.....

are you ******* kidding me? Yeah i lived there a couple years but I DONT ******* READ JAPANESE no i dont want it all japaneses with a different name. I want a Nikon D40x like your lousy website claims i am buying. Then the ******* said acts all snotty and says that the website clearly states it is a japanese greymarket refurb! i hop online and i look at the order and what i bought, and i ask where the **** does it say this? im looking at it right now! He directs me to the "about us" link with the company policies where 3/4 the way down in the small writing nobody looks at, it mentions that they deal with american and greymarket stuff, it states they are the same product made in the same factories but sold to consumers overseas.

I told the ******* that thier website showed me a Nikon D40x, it says NOTHING about it being a grey market item, and they are a bunch of ******** and to cancel my order because i dont ******* want to spend another $150 or so to get what they CLAIMED to be selling me when I put in the order, and i dont want a camera that is all laid out in ******* Kanji or Katakana cause i dont ******* read japanese.

Thank GOD they called to confirm the order though, cause i would have been so fuggin pissed to get a camera all laid out in japanese.

********.

So i found another place that sells Nikon D40 w/lens brand new sealed in box with U.S. factory warranty and a garauntee that i am getting exactly what i am expecting.

SO instead of the D40x 10.2mp, im getting a D40 6.1mp... which im not overly concerned about, it ios the fact that it is a DSLR camera is what im primarily concerned about, and i dont plan on taking any pics and blowing them up to movie poster size, so 6.1 is plenty for my needs.

Something like this happened to my Girlfriend's Mom not too long ago when she was buying a GPS for her car. Ordered it, they call to sell a bunch of unneeded crap with it, of course she didn't buy any of the additional stuff, THEY canceled the order. This happenened twice. They make the money by selling the upgrades and add-ons.

TECHONdigital tried top pull the same crap.

I found a Nikon D40 Camera "gataunteed NEW with full US warranty for" $295.

I ordered it last night, and called them this AM to make sure it was what im looking for.

I ask the guy, Martin, if this is a REAL Nikon D40 or a grey market camera, he says he wil check with shipping but he is sure it is the REAL DEAL. He then tells me i need to add on another battery cause the one with it only lasts 20 min (all online reviews on this camera state the battery has a longer than average life), i tell him no, he asks about upgrading the warranty, i said NO, he then asks me if i got the Filters because you cannot use this camera without filters, i said im not interested, all i want is to know if this is a REAL nikon or a asian camera. Finally he comes back and says oh yeah it is a grey market camera but he will happily upgrade me for $200.

I got pissed, i asked him why the hell thier website is wasting my time when it CLEARLY STATES it is an NEW Nikon D40 with a 1 year U.S. Warranty if it is grey market? and why the hell do i have to upgrade to get the camera thier website is claiming to sell me.

This ************ actually said "How about i put you on hold so you can finish talking and ill come back when yer done?"

I told him to cancel my order and go **** himself.

he cancelled the order.

Unbelieveable.

So im done messing with the discount shops, they all seem to be complete scams. I have $380 for a camera, i already have a tripod and 4g SD memory card on thier way to me. I have seen these cameras for as low as 400 on Ebay, so i may go that route.

Yeah, but it's an option. Staples in Westminster has good customer service and unlike some other stores, they actually know a thing or two about their cameras.

there's a place here in the springs, chris. it's called tech for less, its a multimillion dollar company, but does most of their dealings on line. they do a lot of refurbishing. two of my VERY good friends work there (one works int he warehouse and one on the salesfloor, so it's easy to..well ya know ). if you want I can ask them what they can do. the d40 is a common camera, and I'm sure they have it. if you're interested throw me a PM. check out techforless.com

dam dude. I think you might just have to fork over a little extra cash and buy from a legit big name store. Sounds like these places are really out to screw people, I know I would be pissed to get a camera like that and all the menus be in some foreign language.
