Good plan? lol...
Right so right now I'm saving for an 8.8" rear, probably bid on one from MPS autosalvage on ebay or something since absolutely no one around here sells what I need.
But besides that, I also really want a manual transmission, better gas mileage, a little lighter, better performance..etc etc.
Right now my dad's daily driver is a 1981 hatchback mustang that he/my mom has had since 1981. It has about 270k miles and has no such thing as 'creature comforts' It's a total piece of **** and all it's worth is the gas in the tank. I was looking on craigslist and saw several 5spd V6 stangs (99-04) listed around the $4,000 mark. I'm trying to convince him to replace his piece of ****, with a newer, nicer piece of ****, and then swap the transmissions between the two cars. I'd get my 5spd, and he'd get a nicer DD, that would probably end up with any part I take off of my car on it..lol.
I'm pretty sure I got him to considerate because he actually started to list the reasons why he couldn't get it, bills, insurance (shot him down on the insurance thing by saying the cost wouldn't change at all). I'm not sure how much money my dad makes but my parents have dumped about $10,000 into our kitchen the past 2 years and have been doing other projects, I'm sure he has some money laying around. I told him he could pay for it from my savings (haha.), then they were all like 'that's your money blah blah you'll need that one day,' so I said well the only time I'd ever need it would be during college, but since I'm making $1500 a semester (they won't let me spend this money.) from financial aid and don't have any debts, why the hell would I need it. (They won't let me spend this either, about $2500)
I then reminded him and my mom how we have atleast $4,000 worth of crap we don't need or use laying around in the garage, in the closets, and in the attic, to that my mom said well start selling it and getting money to together. I told her I'd start craiglisting all of the **** we don't need. I'm not sure she took me seriously, but I'm actually going to do this..haha. I figure if I can get atleast $1k together from selling misc crap I could probably get him to buy a car. I'd say sometime during 2009.
It'd be fun to have 2 mustangs to play around with. And he wouldn't get a GT, I can't explain to you why but he believes V8s aren't economical etc etc. Mine would have a supercharger anyway so who gives a **** about a 2v GT.
Cliffnotes: Want a 5 speed, dad needs a new car. Want dad to buy 5spd V6 so I can swap trannies. I'm not allowed to spend "my" money until after college, which I said I'd just blow on the car or another car anyway. I'm selling our old/unused **** on craigslist. lol

So what do you want the 8.8" inch rear for? Planning on putting some serious power down?
I really know how "original" making a V6 Mustang fast is and all, but after spending money on a 8.8" inch rear, gears, labor, and swapping out the manual, just buy a damn 5 speed GT. They are cheap as **** nowadays. And besides, if your going to be putting down serious power, do you really think your going to use the same clutch, shifter, with the tranny your swapping? Your going to end up upgrading it alll anyway.
cliffnotes: Sell the **** in your house on craigslist, trade in your V6, buy a 5 speed GT. break even, or come out ahead.

And, 8.8" = posi, little chance of the rear end going out, and a rear swaybar (lol) I wouldn't need gears for it because roots S/Cs hit boost quick. There would be no labor costs on the transmission swap, or rear end install. I can do all of that myself and have access to a lift (if needed). And I wouldn't be spending any of my own money to get the 5 speed. Yeah I would upgrade the clutch and shifter, but I would do that regardless.
And I like my car, I'm 100% sure any GT I could find in the price range I'd be willing to pay would not be near the condition of my 6.
