For all you gamers...

I am planning on purchasing a gaming system by the end of the summer and I cant decide between the xbox 360 or PS3.

These are the pros and cons I have figured out on each of the systems and I still cant decide which one to get. I'm not concerned with backwards compatibly or even online play (well maybe a little)

Xbox 360
Pros: cheaper than ps3, plays acutual dvds
Cons: Not as reliable/freezes etc, You have to pay for online use.

PS3
Pros: more reliable, free online play
Cons: Only plays blue ray dvds, A tad more expensive

So to all the gamers which one would you recommend?

V6_Mustang_Power 08-03-2008 11:32 AM

PS3 imo.

DJ_Nate 08-03-2008 11:52 AM

PS3. nough said

Codiddy 08-03-2008 11:54 AM

Xbox definitely. I used to be a hardcore playstation fan but unfortunately i feel sony really dropped the ball on this round of consoles. The ps3 has impressive hardware but nothing is being done with it. Also if you buy a whole year of online play for the 360 it works out to like 4 bucks a month, not too expensive.

Redrum 08-03-2008 12:06 PM

I have Xbox 360 elite it hasn’t freeze yet. My bro play it 24/7

INtZ 08-03-2008 02:18 PM

xbox live is worth paying 4 imo. i was a playstation fanboy myself and i agree with codiddy i think because sony joined the next gen console game later than microsoft they kinda got shit on theres just not enough good ps3 only game titles to buy one unless you get MGS4. MGS4 is worth buying a ps3 for:D

venom 08-03-2008 02:52 PM

Get the 360, all that over heating stuff that the white ones had are non existance in the new batches of 360s.

gotMACH04 08-03-2008 04:38 PM

360 elite has been good to me so far:)

3.8for the win 08-03-2008 05:08 PM

360, xbox live is really good ps3 online sucks.

Must See 08-03-2008 05:14 PM

alright thanks guys. Looks like when i do make my purchase ill be getting the xbox 360 Pro. I would be a waste if i got the elite since i will be using it to play games.

PureStang 08-03-2008 05:26 PM

Get the 360 Premium hands down. i was a hardcore playstation fan but xbox is so much better bang for the buck. xbox live is also better setup, even though you have to pay for it.

Stephen4036 08-03-2008 06:09 PM

PS3... dominates the crapBOX. plus Forza 2 took me 3 hours to beat... and GT5 will have 700 cars+

PureStang 08-03-2008 06:39 PM

i sold my ps3 for xbox 360. there are not many good games out for PS3.

also, if you base your choice on graphics, your retarded. base your choice on how many good games are out and to be released.

My elite that I bought 4/14/08 and was manufactured 2/1/08 (my bday..lol) got the RROD on july 23rd, sent that fucker off to best buy with the replacement plan to get a voucher to buy another...I didn't give them the controller, ethernet cable or headset, and of course kept the HDD. So I guess the bright side is I'll have a lot of free shit that I can sell.

I was pissed though, it was the new 65nm chipset with the 175watt PSU and everything, still fucked up. Oh well.

That's a lie based on the fact that there's probably 40 hours worth of racing in the game..

theponyfactor 08-03-2008 07:50 PM

only reason i would get a ps3 is for blu ray but i would assume they'll make a player for the 360 at some point

Only reasons theres a million hours is becuase of endurance and all u have to do is hire 55% driver and leave it to drive.

thats only 8 or 9 races. so that is 9 hours there. there is at least 50 races that take some time and skill.

i absolutely hate the gt games compared to forza. forza is more realistic. GT was nice for playstation and ps2 when gt4 came out.

That was just a rumor. Microsoft has no intention on putting a Blu Ray player in. They are looking at all digital downloads. 360 is the way to go. PS3 has less than a handfull of good games.

Stephen, you are an idiot if you think we would believe you beat Forza 2 in 3 hours. Your just mad cause someone said hey PS3 is the best and you bought one just on that principle alone and now you realized how much it sucks, but your a Sony fanboy who would lick the CEOs ass if you could.

its physically impossible to beat forza 2 in three hours. thanks for trying.

PwnyCar02 08-08-2008 12:40 AM

wow, so much wrong information in these posts, makes me think you know less about gaming and consoles than you do about your cars :P

ok first off, i am and have been employed by Gamestop, Inc. for over 2 years. as far as just deciding whats better, xbox360 or ps3 is concerned, there isnt any one perfect answer. both systems are great for diffferent reasons. both have some great benefits, both have some major drawbacks. thing to make the decision on is YOUR individual playstyle and what suits YOUR needs.

PS3 is a great console, massive power, great frame rates, insane AI capabilities and is a VERY versatile system. Its biggest drawbacks are/were lack of solid titles, and online viability. when you actually sit down and price it, the bang for your buck, PS3 wins hands down. question is really are YOU gonna get your moneys worth outta it. are you going to even use it for its full potential, or do you just want to snipe people while playing Call of Duty 4??

Ps3 is suited for people who want a great gaming system, but want some versatility as well. 20, 60 gig systems (both discontinued for some time) are both backwards compatible with ps1 and ps2 games. new 80gig systems are as well, but might require a download to store the immulator on the hard disc for them to be. 40gig system plays ps1 (through downloads) but not ps2.

PS3 has a blue-ray dvd player built into it. it WILL play regular dvds as well. whoever said it doesnt is misinformed.

PS3 has gaming covered, built in internet browser, skype mobile capability, can have dvds, videos, pictures, music ripped to it from wireless network, or LAN/WAN, mem cards. and to top it off, thier online network is free to use. that being said, its slightly lacking, but they do have huge improvements coming to it in the very near future.

X-Box360, even the newer consoles still have some severe bugs. we warranty ALOT of 360s, however alot of it is due to user error/misuse. THE biggest reason to buy a 360 is online play. straight up, competetive online play. you get what you pay for, and Microsoft spends MILLIONS on xbox live to make sure it is THE online provider of choise for competetive multiplayer gaming. Games like COD:4, Halo3, RainbowSix:Vegas, Gears of War.... some of the sickest titles on the planet for multi-player online experiences. IF youre into first/third person shooters ;)

Xbox360 does have more titles, but how many are really worth a crap? and how many are 360 exclusives? Also, theyve had 2 more years than the ps3 to develop games. of course they are going to have more titles.

360 does not, and will not ever be blue-ray compatible. Why? cuz Sony owns the right to it, since its thier technology. Toshiba was the HD-support for microsoft, which has since folded and given up on HD and recalled most thier HDplayers. so......unless microsoft licsenses the rights to use blue ray, which puts money in their competitors pockets, 360 is screwed for the HD movie market.

All in all, you need to ask yourself, do i want great online experiences with friends and family, or do i want raw power, high end graphics and versatility, but a more single player experience for gaming. they are both phenomenal systems for thier own reasons, question is really which is phenomenal for yours?? ;) :P

Nofire 08-08-2008 04:25 AM

/\ LOL. You sound like a commercial. But what you're saying is true. X-Box has better games and online play, PS3 has better graphics and a blu-ray player.

i have a question on the blu-ray, if sony has all rights to it, how is samsung making blueray players??

well first of all, they licsense the rights to use the technology. but, im not positive on this, but i think Samsung is a subsidary of Sony. whether or not im correct about that, they basically just outsource the main component from the blue-ray player, then build around it. even though Sony developed it, the first ps3's had components to the blue-ray player that were outsourced. similar thing here.

WNRacing 08-08-2008 01:54 PM

Blu-ray is completely pointless unless you have a 1080p TV that runs 120hz frame rate. If you haven't seen blu-ray running on a TV like this then you have never truly seen what it's all about.

For the average person with average $$.. Meaning most of us still have TV's that run 480, 720p, 1080i, will never get any REAL use out of a blu-ray player because for our sets HD will still look just as good. And we will save money! $40 for a DVD.... Get that crap out of here.

360 Wins overall, great power more than is really needed. If you set the unit up properly and let it have plenty of free moving air you will never have any issues with overheating and Microsoft has plenty of great titles. Sony has lost a ton of $$ over the last year and I wouldn't be entirely surprised to see Microsoft buy them out soon.

PS: Stephen4036, You're a liar (as if we didn't already know that). It is physically impossible to beat Forza in 3 hours even with a "hired" driver. Also, Gran Turismo has sucked for the last two titles, other than having a bunch of cars the physics sucked and the graphics sucked even harder. :flamed:

HokieStang00 08-08-2008 02:39 PM

I bought a ps3 and I'm happy with it so far. I hate the the Xbox controllers and I've seen a few of them crash...so we just spent the extra 120$ and got a 3 year warranty with the ps3. There's plenty of games and more will come out with time. At the moment I have no use for Blu-ray, but considering you can't really find a Blu-ray player under 300$, paying 400$ for one + something I can play games on is a pretty good deal.

JackThe Ripper 08-08-2008 04:07 PM

----HokieStang00

no way Xbox360 controllers for the win.

-----PwnyCar02

Best post i have ever read for determining a video game system. Funny thing is i can imagine my buddy jonny stating that word for word, and he is a manager at a gamestop

lol

----Stephen4036..

lol..... you need to work on preventing your hands from running off and typing dumb shit before they check with yer brain first.

As for me, i got a 360 elite and it runs fine. I think my regular 360 ran bettwe with media center, but all in all the Xbox 360 does everything i want with the exception of one thing....

Tekken is only on the PS3.
DAMMIT

---WARNING this is where i get off topic and start gushing about this game

I am the tekken grand fucking master champion.

I can go years without playing that game and walk back into it, play a new version, and still school anyone.

When i was stationed in Japan i remember when tekken 3 came out, i hit up several of the tournaments and just dominated the hell out of anyone with anyone against anyone.

Best fighting game period. It is the most versatile, you can develop your own fighting techniques and not rely on preprogrammed ones, the counters are very fluid, and the whole gameplay really feels like a dance.

Fav chars are King and Nina. Both of them arte a lot of fun, and are about the most versatil, you can play deceptive, aggressive, defencive, however you want.

Brian and Paul are best for full out ass whipping, nto the best on defence but a lot of strings you can carry different directions to trip people up.

Yoshimitsu is the best to mess with people. a lot of his movements people find difficult to predict and track

Jin and Kazuya are also a lot of fun, so is Jun.

I played this game all the goddamn time, i still know half of the characters 10hit combos off the top of my head, but kings throw combos are the most fun.

anyways. yeah.

Ill whip anybodys ass in that game

and it sucks cause i dont have a PS3. But once in a while i run into somone with a PS3 and just fuck em up 6 ways from sunday
lol

Steeda97 08-08-2008 04:26 PM

I will annihilate you at Tekken. Any game, any system. Period.

Ha, just kidding, never even played the game before.

When you can watch netflix movies in 30second with the PS3 let me know.

360 best online gaming check
360 best titles check
360 watch movies instantly check

I dont adopt any technology that has not reached the masses. I use to do that and you end up with expensive outdated equipment. As far as Blueray its outdated in technology as far as delivery. Why go out and buy a disc or wait for one to get to your home when you will be able to stream one to your 360 in 30 seconds.

Ask yourself what happend to Sonys Minidisc? It became obsolete when Mp3s hit the scene. Its better to let other companys sell your technology and make royalties off it then give those companies an incentive to come out with something better will deliver a faster better and more profitable way to watch movies. While Sony is dumping money into chips MS is just providing bandwidth and using the infrastructure that is there already to deliver movies to your 360 in 30 seconds.

Now that you know all the facts does the PS3 look like its full of the latest technology.

PS if your into the Wii you will be able to make avatars now with the 360.

No shit?

What model?

Ive been out of the audio game for far too long it looks, i diddnt know recievers were doing that yet.

My whole front end is denon. Got a 3805 reciever, a POA 2800 2ch 200w amp, and a DVD-2900 universal disc player that is built like a fuggin tank, i swear that player is like 35lbs

All pretty good stuff back in 2004. Still damn good now, all built to the hilt with good parts, just lacking some of the modern features like bluetooth and anything wireless..

But the Xbox has a digi coax connection to the reciever and does a fine job of streaming. most of my mp3'x are 320khz and higher

Ive always been a big fan of Denon.

All the facts? well.....not quite. see, the PS3 can stream movies from your PC as well, just like the 360 can. and as for all those hot titles? how many are 360 exclusives? sure, theres gears of war, and halo 3, what about the sony exclusives? resistance: fall of man is an awsome game, it rivals gears in every way. Heavenly Sword is a masterpiece. Ratchet and Clank: Future tools of Destruction is another insane game. by far one of the best games ive played.

also, can your 360 make phone calls? how about interface with hand held game consoles? can it be used as a DVR and rip/record movies and television shows like a TiVo? how about browse the internet? or here....can it run CRISIS at 60fps?

Sony released the PS3 knowing people in the US wouldnt quite be ready for it, from a technology standpoint, ie the whole 1080p being only the newer tvs. give the ps3 some time, and youll all see its true power and potential. 360 has had a few years to get its feet wet.

now, all this being said, BOTH systems are great for thier own reasons. ps3 is definately more versatile though.

We can agree to disagree. Its always the same excuse just wait and wait and some more waiting eventually something great is going to happen with PS3, "we'll show them Duke boys(360), gelllgellgell". What is the best console right now or since the new consoles have been released its the 360. If you want to speculate what may be on top a few years from now then get a PS3 you may be rewarded with everything the 360 does right now :D. Everybody has their fav console but I just go where the real gamers are at ;).

there is no doubt right now, for sheer gaming the 360 wins hands down. thats something i wont argue. not everybody is a hardcore gamer though. some people like a little more versatility, and something that can be used as a total central entertainment hub.

and as for what it can do a few years from now, all the stuff i posted for capabilities are what it can do now. problem though, is the firmware to do some of this stuff isnt available in the US yet. that is by far the biggest drawback for the ps3 imo. and the huge delays on the PSN restructuring.

by the way, even after all my ps3 advocating, im kinda surprised nobody has asked what i play? i am an XBOX360 owner. but as ive stated several times in this thread, its all about the indivuals personal needs and playstyles. im kinda a hardcore gamer geek, so for right now 360 best suits my needs :D

White04GT 08-09-2008 11:51 AM

I have a 360 Elite and it never freezes and I play it for hours at a time.

GDP 08-09-2008 02:27 PM

Let us not forget the PS3 was being designed before the 360. So really sony was into the next gen consoles before microsoft. Just microsoft knew if it could get its nextgen out before sony it would have a head start. However look at what it cost them. They 360 has a HUGE list of known problems whereas the PS3 is built like a freaking rock/tank/whatever.

also the PS3 has many more features and is more versitile. Ive played on both systems and I love the PS3 way more.
