Default question about propane tanks

how do you know if your tank is empty? i mean i know you cna get a gauge to tell you but i dont have one and i would like to know how full my tank is without having to refill it.

is there a difference in weight between a full tank and empty tank?

this is for a backyard grill BTW.

You will be able to tell by the weight.

yep, that's how most propane grills will tell you how much propane you have left. they hook onto the grill and it's basically a scale that is printed on the grill with an arm attached to the mechanism. so yes, there is a direct relationship with weight and how much propane you've got.

I know the weight goes down, but a 20 gallon tank will last quite awhile. I'm still on my same tank that I've had for like a year now. Just have an extra tank handy so if the one goes out, you have a full one on reserve. I know here it's like $18 to exchange for a refill.

pretty sure the weight of an empty tank is about 17-20 pounds.

empty is generally around 20lbs. propane weighs about 4.24/gal as a liquid.
