okay i have a question, kinda new at this
have an 03 cobra, stock, 3000 miles on her
got her in april, havin a blast,guess i can't shut up about the car at times
yesterday my friend tells me he is gonna get an 08/09 roush or shelby, just to shut me up!
question is...would that shut me up? termanator is stiill king, right??????
please advise

 

Not sure... Roush does claim to get like 430 horses...

well.....the roush 427r is just as fast as a gt500. and the terminator is a hair slower than a gt500 (stock for stock). all you need to do is get a pulley and tune and you will be much faster than him cause the new edge mustangs are lighter than the s197 mustangs.

 

+1 For the Pulley and tune. Just a few mods for your Termi and not many people could "shut you up."

 

why would anyone need to "shut you up" unless you brag 24/7 and talk sh*t

the termy is a few hundred lbs lighter than the new shelby and can make just as much power as the shelby or the roush with just a pulley and tune... Termy is king because it's as far as you can take the basic platform in an OEM package.

 

since i have only had the car a few months, i may mention things i find out about the termanator from the forums or websites it is an exciting car to own
after reading" lead foot, iron fist" may have been more talkative on the subject
usually though, i keep my mouth shut unless someone asks me how i like the cobra or what it is capable of.
i suppose the excitement of finding one with so few miles will wear with time, but i don't think by much

I'd brag all the live long day. Enjoy your cobra man! Its an incredible car.

 

Unless its a roush 427 or a stage three you have absolutely nothing to worry about, and even then you have little to worry about. 90% of the roush mustangs out there are nothing more than mustangs with body kits. Even if it is a fast roush it won't take more than the mods already described (pulley and tune) to come back out on top. If he is buying a Shelby GT (the regular one not the shelby cobra) then you should just laugh at him a lot. Don't worry man, Terminators are still king.

 

Is your friend really buying an overpriced car just to be able to say he's got a better car?

roush's are not over priced. if you had seen the roush episode of RIDES on TLC then you can understand why. it would be so much more expensive if they had to buy everything out of house. They make every single part that goes into their Roush'd mustangs. the only thing that they buy from another company is the interals for the engine which are made by mahle (sp?) and that is only on their new P51a special edition mustang. so all of the part that are put the mustangs are all build in house.

 

There is always something faster and always somebody with deeper pockets. Do what I do and just don't care. Why? Because, it is a loosing battle anyway. Just make the car so you are happy with it and stop worrying about what other people think.

Hell, like I have said before, I could stick a rocket up my *** and jump on a skate board and beat your Cobra. What would that prove?

Besides, look at my situation....I have a 400 hp car...faster then most, slower then some. But it is ALL MINE. I have the pink slip. I would much rather have my car, then trade it in on $65K Saleen or Roush and either have a big fat loan, or alot less money in my retirement account.

I sometimes wonder how interesting life would be if there were a law that required drivers to not just have plates but a big red flashing sign on the back that showed their balance on their car loan....then things would be a lot different.

 

There is nothing wrong with having pride in your Cobra. I'd say get all your "Cobra" talk out on the message boards where people have the same interests. None of my friends are really into muscle cars or modding so I don't talk to them about it....that's why I joined this forum.

I don't think you are one of "those" Cobra owners, but some have a "my car is god" attitude and it gets annoying. So don't become one of "them". Like WaterDR said, there is something always faster.

i do have brother in law and one cousin who will talk cars all day & night. my cousin wants to mod the crap out of my car, LOL
but there is one guy i have to attend meetings with, who has a pontiac solstice, thinks he is a nascar driver in it and looks at mustangs like yesterdays trash. i doubt he even knew what SVT stood for.
only thing i ever said to him was, pontiacs are nice cars if you are never in a hurry to get anywhere!

 

I was watching a video and they were testing the GT500 versus an o3 cobra. The GT500 actually pulled a little faster time on the track, but the termy beat it in a drag race. Overall, they picked the 03 cobra as a better car and more fun to drive.

I was surprised how the GT500 handled better than the cobra, which just drifted around most of the corners..haha

 

Yup, I believe it's from torque t.v. Yeah I know when top gear tested the GT500 vs. the new Roush, the Roush killed it on the track, but lost in the drag race.
