Default 2012... it's coming. Are you ready?

Do you know what 2012 (specifically December 21-23) is supposed to be?

If you do does it bother you? Do you believe in it? Do you care at all?

For me it's:

a. nope, been waiting for 2012 for 20 years since I blindly and for no reason accepted it as the dogma I wanted to believe in since the others kinda all suck.

b. see a.

c. yeah... it's kinda depressing but carpe' diem and never regret a moment and you'll feel a lot better.

Discuss.

What is supposed to be happening in 2012?

Edit: went and read up on it and I don't but it.

If the Mayans were so intelligent why didn't they see their own impending doom.... I mean they damn near worshiped the conquistadors and they were just there to take the Mayans **** and give them diseases.

If they could predict the end of the world why coudn't they see the end of their civilisation

uhhh they did see it coming. It's actually kinda weird that tribes throughout the Americas commonly had prophecies in their culture of white skinned gods that would come and end their civilization (also bringing an end to the world in the process). It was so terrifying to natives in California to see their doom prophecies coming true that they were documented to have scratched the skin from their faces and sobbed uncrontrollably on seeing the europeans. The meso-american civilizations didn't react much better. Their only option was to capitulate or face obliteration at an even more rapid pace. At least their blood line still exists in modern mexico. Many other tribes were completely wiped out after they tried to resist. You can't fight a technologically advanced culture with sticks and stones.

I'm betting on global war + multiple natural disasters + economic collapse + massive famines and disease outbreaks. Those are always fun at parties.

Well R3D were half way there if you think about it..

Global War = Look at the talk most recently about the reactors, nuclear bomb discussions in the middle east...hell there ready to push the button any day when given the chance! And we been over in Iraq/middle east fighting with the highest death toll.

Natural Disasters = Look at all fires in your own backyard as of recent, and the flooding that has taken place in Missouri

Economic Collapse = Well hell look in the job papers you dont see jobs flooding the markets as you did once before, and gas prices kinda make ya wanna take a loan out just be able to afford to get to work.

Disease Outbreaks = Here is the Southern States most recently you couldnt eat freaking tomatoes because of saminella diseased and some had even died from that, now thats some **** for sure!

So were not to far off from the comments, but you know if its the new awakening ice age in evolution coming so be it, no sense losing sleep over it and its kinda like Y2K and people freaking out!

I am still skeptical but on the bright side for me if the world ends at that time and every one dies no one will be left to say "see I told you so"

Some of this stuff seams a little iffy for as far as precursers to the end

I don't really see the economy collapsing anywere I see the job market is shallow in michigan but even so the nation as a whole is still experiencing economic growth even with gas prices. The great depresion was way worse.

Global war is a bit of a streach considering that the world has always been at war and WWII had way more deaths in single days than the war in iraq has had so far

Natural disasters have never really stopped either katrina was bad but worse things have happened and flooding and fires are nothing new not to mention earthquakes, tornados and volcanic activity.

We have had a lot of scares with disease but largely there has not been a whole lot of deaths as far as statistics go I mean the black death whipped out a third of the worlds population (a forth by conservative estimates)

what I'm trying to say is we have been through worse than what we are going through now and we are still here. If the icecaps melt and the sea level rises we will still be here. Human life addapts to what it has thrown at it and this will continue for the forseable future.

An act of God is the only thing that I can see ending us for good and if you aren't religious then you should be fairly confident that nothing ever will.

on dec 21 2012, all the planets will be aligned with the center of the universe and there is reason to believe the magnetic poles will reverse according to a lot of astronomers and scientists.

This will have the potential to ultimatly **** the planet six was from sunday. The flip apparently doesent happen immediatly, there is a period where the magnetic shield that keeps us from instant DEATH from the suns radioactive death rays will be in a very weakened state, when in that weakened state the suns rays could come through and basically charbroil-**** every last scrap of life and vegitation as it if were in a hyperpowered microwave. Better to pull out the SPF 1billion

But then again, maybe not, nobody was around last time the poles reversed, it could happen in a snap, could let a tiny bit of radiation through, and just **** up evertything that uses electromagnetism.

Or the poles may stay where they are as a lot of other scientists believe.

The important thing to keep in mind with the Mayan Calander is that 2012 is NOT defining the "END" it is defining the end of an age, and the beginning of a new age.

This could be nothing more disasterous than a global awaking, a profound change in thinking. And it might not include tons of death.

Personally, i like to think that if ANYTHING will have happened it will be exactly that, a profound change in global thinking and understanding of our planet and our role within the planet. The begninning of an age of responsibility to ourselves as we develop into a more mature species.

Remember this,

Every few years somone is announcing the end of the world. Nostrodamus did it, some asshat religious zealout did it, another asshat religious zealout did it, a mathematician did it, another asshat religious zealot did it,

every single time a new prediction of the end of the world comes, it is supposed to be the most accurate predicition to date, then the day passes, and **** happens, and a new prediction comes up.

\dont put any belief in it.

Look at the mayan calander and take a look at how it works,. it is all building cycles within cycles, eventually even thier clock strikes 12 and they are back at midnight and everything starts over. That is all. No impending doom. No disaster. The mayans simply have a very long calander, and thier "midnight" is when the planets align with the center of the universe. It resets thier calander tracking method, all thier calander stuff is based off astronomy.

The end of the stone age was not the end of the world, it was the beginning of the bronze age, the end of the bronze age was not the end of the world, it was the beginning of the iron age, so on and so forth.

i dont see any reason to consider this any different

If anyone is really worried about the end of the world, most religions frown upon material posessions, so please, give me all yer **** so when 12/21/2012 comes you will go to heaven.

Oh yeah,

dont forget these silly little guys that tie into the mayan 2012 thing as well as a recent blockbuster movie.

apparently there are 13 origional skulls and a shitload of imitations..

This is not just some **** off the Indiana Jones movie, the crystal skulls are apparently real, im not sure how indiana jones portrayed them cause im married and broke and cant afford to see it!!!!

anyways, ideas range far and wide, one very popular one is that there were 13 origional crystal skulls, they are the ones that scientists cant figure out how to make on earth cause the only way the crystals develop in the patterns of the "true 13" skulls is to develop them in space. So, there i the movement that believes they are actually a weapon or defence system of some sort against a possible disaster around the dec 21 2012 time perriod that was given to us by an alien race, and made to look like skulls because we would probably keep track of them better if they look cool. Whoops.

allegedly they have some rather unique abilitys and and resonate to eachother or something. Anyways, one idea is that all 13 origionals must be found before the bad things happen, or they might not need to be brought together, just simply exist on the planet at the same time. Possible to prevent the magnetic pole swap.

A. No.
B. No.
C. It's not that I don't care, I'm just not convinced. I think a prediction of the end of the world is a little too bold seeing as how we still can't even guarantee what the weather is going to do.

Haha. Everyday is a mystery. Tried to go to the beach a week ago and it was 56 in Grand Haven lol. They should just pick a temp like 73-74 for everyday and put + or - 15 degrees next to it. Sorry for the off topicness.

The sun reverses its magnetic field like clockwork every eleven years at the peak of the sunspot cycle. The next solar flip is due in 2012. South-pointing magnetic flux moves from sunspots, which are intense magnetic loops near the equator of the sun, along “meridional flows” to the north magnetic pole, and vice versa. As the oppositely-directed charge accumulates at the poles the field declines, until eventually the reverse charge predominates.

And I thought aliens were coming to eat us. I was wanting to choke one of those pencil neck bug eyed fools. It can't be a crime if he ain't from earth...

Interesting reading here, Now I'm gonna get my telescope out and watch for stuff..

Exactly. I was watching a show last night where they said Martin Luther thought the end of the world would come in 1999, and Nostradamus predicted it to be in 3747 or some **** like that.

I don't believe in it. The world will end when it ends and I don't think there's anyone that can accurately predict it.

the sunspot issue we've been through and I'm pretty sure we'll have the same huge power outages and satellites falling from the sky (well. not really falling... just not working anymore). Then there's earth's own pole shift which is due and then there's the spooky answers coming out of both The Web Bot Project ( http://aphroditeastrology.com/2007/0...-and-2012.html ) and the Hyderabad, India based company with their software model http://www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread124648/pg1 predicting similar issues.

Given that we can't even figure out why the winds on Venus blow like they do, I'm pretty sure there's an error in both but it's fun to live like every day is your last.

its interesting how all the writing on this keeps sating that the myan calander claims 2012 will be the end of mankind.

the mayan calander marks it the end of an age, not the end of mankind, and the end of an age does not always happen with violence.

people are dumb. ever single generation of human kind that has the ability to grasp the idea of an "end of the world" has predicited it would happen in thier life times.

this is nothing new, this is just another cycle of wash, lather, rinse repeat.

i was telling my friend about this and i mentioned the end of an 'AGE' his small grasp on this subject lead him to believe that i was talking about the end of mankind! i laughed and said its just another cycle of life like what you all have explained in a way and from all of the links and other searches i did reading up on this...

******* R3d with his biblical non-sense and unleashing it on us!!
