Default cams

for those of you who went with cams. are you generally happy with them? was the money worth the improvement? or, if you could go back and just save the money, would you?

i'm thinking about getting them but, just wanted to see how others felt after the install

for what i paid to do the cam swap on my 2v, i think it was well worth it....cams-560 install-300 and dyno tune-100...total was 960 all said and done and running 12's N/A makes it even better.

Shapeshifter who did your tune and how does it run such as idle when changing gears etc... I know alot of people have been having problems with some tuners with cammed mod motors.

my buddy dyno tuned it at a local performance shop here in south texas with my car he's tuned 5 2v's with cams, all of which have made 300rwhp with stock/unported heads, other than mine and his, ours are auto's, others 5spd's....my car runs very smooth for having cams, tho they are stage 1's...aka Comp 262's....my idle is set at 750-800 when at operating tempatures.

heres an idle clip...

gained pretty good power from the cams.

prev.#'s before cams: 255rwhp/278rwtq

after cams #'s: 283rwhp/301rwtq

on an automatic car btw.

What exhaust are you running? That thing sounds GREAT. Did you upgrade the springs or still running the stock valve springs? Thanks Bubba

MAC Longtubes, O/R X, and Bassani Catback....and still running on stock valve springs, the comp262's dont require upgraded valve springs

Okay... I have a TKO 500 transmission, and I think the gear ratios are lower... so, would I still need 3.55+ gears for the 270's? It's the TKO-500 with the .68 OD... here are the ratios...

3.27 1st
1.98 2nd
1.34 3rd
1.00 4th
.68 5th....

So, I'd still the need 3.55's wouldn't I?

(I have the stock 3.27's... i think)

I have the 270's on my 5.5. Definitely worth it for my combo. Shifted the torque peak from <3000rpm to 4000rpm. On a 4.6 you'd seriously need 3.55's as a minimum. I did... 3.55's are a fantastic street gear too I love em. Always in the right part of the rpm range.
