Exclamation This could change the medical world

http://www.reuters.com/article/scien...BrandChannel=0

I don't know if any of you know anyone who has had an organ transplant but if you do you will realize just how big this is. Not only that but it allows (with further advancments) for the potential of changing blood types this could lead to one blood type for eveyone and then universal organ donation. No more people on waiting lists for someone with an obscure blood type to die cause evey one is a perfect match Bone marrow trasplants too. Lukemeia would be easily cured.... Do you see how massive this is.

Now that it has happened once they may be able to make it happen again if they can recreate the conditions. She was just the first one this has happend to. I agree it is a miracle but in my opinion miracles are just God showing us what is possible. But like I said this could change the world of medicine on the other hand it could be somthing that only happens once only time will tell

Scientific discoveries are very rarely what people are looking for when they find them and many medical advances have risen from flukes including defibruilators, vacination and penacillin. (It's called serendipity) At the time these were all miracles and they still are the thing is that they are so common now that no one calls them miracles. This is one of the reasons I don't like the term medical miracles becuase if people call them that then no one tries to figure out how they happend. I don't believe that God breaks the physical laws that he put in place but I know for a fact we don't know how they all work yet because advances in science and medicine are made every day. A miracle is God showing us somthing we missed.

And no the FSM can't do miracles because I ate him

The sad part of this story is that now this 15 year old girl gets to live under the microscope while the scientific community tries to figure out how this happened.

Considering the nature of the problem with my boy Logan the wife and i usually try to keep tabs on this kind of stuff.

the stuff they are doing is amazing, they have grown a rat heart. they have grown human heart valves, the stuff they are doing is nothing short of amazing.

A lot of this stuff should be available in 10-15 years.

The group that grew a heart valve claims they expect to be able to grow a new human heart genetically matched to the patient within 10 years or so, the heart valve was only a milestone.

Now, i think the only thing more challanging than growing a human heart would be growing the brain. The heart is a very complex organ. So, im sure the livers, kidneys, lungs, etc, will be following in short order.

It is interesting to speculate what would happen in a socioty where human body parts are grown and replaced. You could almost live forever. Of course, only the wealthy would be able to afford it.

Anyone seen that movie Gattica?

He is doing great!

So great in fact, that his cardiologists are going to hold a conference when he is either 20lbs or 1 year old to determine when they will re-do the surgery and replace the faulty artifical valve.

he is currently 9 months and 18lbs.

So..... we might have to spend another summer in the hospital... neither of us are ready to go through all this again.

Stay strong bro. He'll live a healthy life and probably won't be emotionally scarred from the experience. You, on the other hand can be proud that you endured the pain to make him healthy, I went through enough health problems to know that I'm glad this did not happen to my son. You will be rewarded for for courage when your son is your best friend in the coming years..
