are you kidding me?
Verzin is FAR from the first to do this.
Anyone hear of Crickett Communications? They are active in most states and most of the larger cities.
for $50 a month you get
UNLIMITED anytime minuts
UNLIMITED long distance
UNLIMITED Coverage in all cricket calling areas
UNLIMITED 411 assistance
UNLIMITED text/picture messages
plus all the normal forwarding/holding/caller id/vm features.
You can make a call, leave it active for A SOLID MONTH and STILL your bill is 50 bucks.
AND THEY HAVE BEEN DOING THIS FOR OVER 7 YEARS NOW!!!!!!!!
Good Job verizon! You SUCK! Way to go!
the ONLY thing cricket doesent have is nationwide coverage, but unless you regularly travel it is a damn good deal.

That is kind of an unfair comparison. It is a LOT more expensive to offer nation-wide coverage then to have local coverage. Back in the day when the big guys offered both plans, the national plans were twice as much money
Everyone I know travels, so these local plans are pretty pointless for us.
BUT, the $99 verizon plan ain't all what it is cracked-up to be either. For starters, that does not include text messaging etc. That bring the plan to $119 and they don't honor corp. discounts on these plans. I get 18% off.
It is about $100/month cheaper for me to maintain my family plan, then to switch to this new plan, because you can't share minutes with the unlimited plan.
Verizon fell short if you ask me.

cricket's network is far smaller and they dont have the luxury of that type of infrastructure, so they actually have to pay for each call terminated over the LECS. Even with LCR measures it is far cheaper for call termination if you have an inhouse longhaul setup especially with LD.
all in all cricket i garauntee pays more per call than verizon does.
granted crickets network is smaller and requres less people to maintain it, but on the other hand verizon has a FAR larger customer base, so while it is more expencive to maintaing thier national network, they pull in a hellofalot more money because they have 100times the amount of customers.
They could EASILY nail out a $50 nationwide unlimited wireless service. They just choose to make it more expencive because they want more money. Thats cool it is thier network they can set the pricing, but a majority of people dont travel much, so paying extra is a bit pointless
I actually dont have any real qualms with verizon, we do a lot of dealing with them, they are far far far better than qwest or the old bells.
But i really dont think 99 a month for even nationwide unlimited is that great of a deal.

lol. it cost them more to built up thier network, but verizon probably long hauls everything in-house over a softswitch voip net, which saves them TONS in routing costs with the lecs. Hell we do that and we are not as big as verizon.
