Penn State THON
alright the annual 48 hour dance marathon was this weekend and it was my first one ... i didnt dance but i spent about 20 of the hours there on my feet with them for the frat im pledging, and it was crazy... 48 hrs the dancers arent aloud to leave their feet, someone goes with them to eat, to the bathroom, etc its non stop music and **** ... well this year we raised 6.6 MILLION dollars (1.4 mil more than last year!) for the 4 diamonds cancer fund... in the last 2 hrs a bunch of the families came out and told their stories and our frats thon kids got to go up on the stage and it was really pretty amazing.. ill try to find some pics and videos to post up soon i know i really cant describe the atmosphere in there but im really proud of everyone involved

half the people that are in thon here didnt get to go up cause of the weather. the other half left either wed or thursday night
i will probably be there next year lots of the people i know this year are moving up there...so its not going to be as hard to stay there.

I have been to this event many times. In fact, I had not missed a year until last year since 2001.
For those of you that are not aware THON is a crazy event that is run entirely by the student body. All funds go to childhood cancer and most stays in the state of PA. If a child is treated in Hershey Medical Center for cancer, 4-Diamonds (the organization that gets all the funds) will pay for all meidcal expenses not covered by insurance.
Some of you may know, but my middle daughter Libby was diagnossed with AML in July 2000 when she was just 11 months old and was treated at HMC. While she gave her life to the disease just six months later, were it not for these kids, she may have not had a chance.
While many college students are worried about chasing skirts and getting drunk, these students go above and beyond in a way most people can not imagine.
