Question Skateboards?

My little bro want to give skateboarding a try and wanted to see if you could give me some advice on buying him a good board. I know nothing about them. I want to buy him something that's of decent quailty as I don't know if he'll like it and I don't want to spend $150 bucks on something he'll only use a couple of times and then trash it..

My 13 y/o step son is really into skating and His mom and me have been going through this same thing. We recently got him a board and other gear from a store called CCS..... thats all I know about it. I know you can go to ccs.com and find all the cool stuff. All the skaters are getting their gear from there. Last Christmas we payed 120 bucks for his board and trucks and wheels too that was everything together. Im sure you could get out a bit cheaper than that but a silly Wal-Mart board wont cut it. Those things wont even roll three feet with a lil push LOL.
But if ya DO order from CCS.... I can vouch for the quallity of their stuff. I have seen my stepson punish the hell outta everything from his board to his Element clothes.

ccs.com is an awesome store. back when i used to skate i got all my stuff there or at a place called Fairman's (Place that sponsors Bam Margera, met him there too). dont expect to pay less than 130 for a boards of decent quality. i have like 10 boards, 7 sets of trucks, and 20 sets of wheels somewhere in my basement lol.

just make sure he wears a helmet. i was stupid and got a few concusions and things.

Stakeboarding also ended my wrestling career. my foot sliped off of the back of the board and and it was planted on the ground and i fell ontop of my own foot basically. tore ligaments, popped my knee cap out of place, and i had a swollen knee for 2.5 years. other than that, it was fun while it lasted.

P.S. i still get some of my snowboarding clothes there as well. from 7th grade till today i still go there for a few things.

i skate and so does all my friends so ill try and help. your going to want to spend like are 100-130 to get one thats good and that he can use.

the number one thing is not to get him a board thats to big. then get trucks not ramp trucks your going to want street trucks.

then bearings 3 is the fast speed 14 is the slowest i would get him 11s or 10s some thing thats not to fast the slower bearings are not going to spin as much as he gets better get faster bearings.

most boards are the same some are thicker then others BAKER boards are really thick so i would stay away from them all so stay away from zoo york.

.1 Wal-Mart board suck

hears a link for ccs i got some stuff from them in the past.

ive been skating for about 7 yrs and i wouldnt go to ccs to buy him a board ... i did it a lot when i was just starting off but a lot of the product they sell i would never buy bc of quality and other reasons ... in my opinion, support your local skate shop, there is one in every town and more and more are going under bc of companies like ccs.. you might spend more but it would be good for the skateboard community, and you can usually get "shop" blank boards which would bring the price of a complete down about 20-30 dollars ... if you must shop online try www.activemailorder.com ... they are a good online company ... and try to get him to stick with it, skateboarding is amazing and has lead me to a lot of opportunities and new friends

Yeah go to active. I used to skate a couple years ago, and i occasionally go out with friends. I always kept the same set-up. Eventually i had to resort to buying blanks because buying name brands were too expensive when they'd break after a week or so. I always had "Royal" brand trucks, they lasted forever. In 5 years of skating, i went through a million decks but only about 3 sets of trucks. Also, Ricta wheels are the best quality out there. I really didn't give a crap about bearings, but grab some Reds Bones bearings and you'll be fine. IF you wanna fork out the money, get some Ceramics.

Skating is so much fun, hanging out with your friends looking for spots. It just takes a toll on your body after awhile, and if you play another sport, your body is screwed by age 18 like mine. Haha. I played hockey and skated all my life up until 18. I barely play hockey anymore and i don't skate, i just work on my mustang. Funny how things change.

Nah that ****. Mongoose is a bike company. haha. But nah, i mean, if he's just trying this out, and will probably quit in a week, then buy that. If hes serious about it, get something with quality because he's learning on this. Those cheap boards are really heavy, and feel like crap. Its really hard to learn on something like that.

yeah def no mongoose or any of that **** ... i might even go as far to say that having that **** will aid in his decision to quit if he decides to do so because of how frustrating it will be to learn with that... Rob and Big is a huge show on MTV now im sure he knows of it ... heres a good but cheap deck he might like

now just look for some on sale trucks, wheels, bearings and hardware (even cheap stuff on active is legit) and he will be happy

I went ahead and bought him an angelboy skateboard. The guy at the skateshop recommended it. He said it was both for beginner and intermediate skaters.

The whole board was complete with some trucks and bearing and wheels that he put together there. It ran me about $90 bucks when all was said and done. I think my little bro will like it. I'll surprise my little bro when he gets home..

I was just thinking.... Damn how times have changed simce I was a skater. I remember skating before Tony Hawk was on the scene! I got his first board he put out. It was cool though. At that time, there were no "skate parks". At least not where I lived anyway. A friend of mine talked his dad into building him a half pipe in the back yard and there were like 9 of us that showed up to help build it. That was the first real ramp I had ever been on or ever really seen in real life! We had tons of fun on that thing. When we wernt on the half pipe we would all skate to the college campus (Texas A&M in College Station) and give it hell all day long. One fun thing we would do on campus was when the football field was closed we would sneak in and shimmy between the fences and go ALL the way up top. Well this stadium has a rectangular cork screw at each corner and it was wide enough for a small car ro drive up. Well once up top we would skate down that cork screw snd gain HELLA speed! My brothers best friend was almost killed doing that he got going so fast and hit the wall and ended p being tossed around like a ragdoll he landed ON the concrete barier that keep things "inside"! He was shaken up pretty bad..cuts bruises, and a big ol knot on his head. But his board caused his parents to pay for somebodys new windshield. When his board fell it went through the widshield of a pick up. Ahh MAN! We had FUN! Wish times were still the same!
Well Im done reminicing now, thanx for riding with me while I rode down memory lane hehe!

Another thing you may want to stock up on is, guaze pads and neosporin. Heavy duty large bandaids work well too. My son uses them quite often.

Be ready for an occasional trip to the first med clinic too.

It seems that concrete is not as bad as new asphalt for taking off skin..

And LOL at the viagra post. Jeez, perma ban on that one..
