Default Sick Brother

Looks like my brother may have Lymphoma. He is heading to Mayo. Diagnosis is not definate, but since my other brother is an oncologist, we sort of have the inside scoop. In fact, he is a doc at Mayo.

That now makes my Dad, my dad's sister, my daughter, and now likely that my brother all have had cancer.

Sorry to hear that bro. Check out this website to understand more on lymphomas..http://www.leukemia-lymphoma.org/all_page?item_id=7030.

Hopefully it's not a blood or bone type cancer, It could just be the lymph nodes caught a cancer from some other organ. ( not good, but maybe identifiable). The sooner the docs can pinpoint the origin the better off he'll be. I had RSLND (right side lymph node dissection) done with my cancer in 1994 and had 73 lymph nodes removed from my abdomin. 3 came back postive for my cancer. Chemo was immediately ordered and I was on my way to 100% recovery and remission.. 13 years cancer free here, Keep a positive outlook. But you already know that.. Good luck and Godbless..

Wow....I did not know that. That is fantastic.

What we know is that his spleen and nodes in his neck and abdomen are involved. We don't know about his marrow yet. Actually, they don't have biopsy results either. It could still be an infection or something else completely wild, but based on other symptoms and the fact that is platelets are also low, the situation is extremely suspicious. The fact that platelettes are involved and that the intial pathology report "looked funny" is scary.

One of my other brothers (I have 5) is an oncologist at Mayo Clinic. He thinks it is classic Stage 3B lymphoma as he sees thsi stuff everyday and is bringing him to Rochester just as soon as the insurance issues are resolved which should be today. He is 90% sure about the diagnosis, but there is always that chance of something else less serious.....and a chance of something worse. I am fearful of CML (Chromic Myeloid Luekemia) which has now gone acute. It presents the same way and would be essentially be a done deal. There is no cure for this as it is the most aggressive form of luekemia. Best chance you have against CML is finding out about it before it goes acute and then keeping in the chronic stage. You can live like that your whole life.

So, anyway, it will be an interesting few days and hopefully, there is a positive outlook.
