Third gear started buzzing thought nothing of it.. then everytime I went to put it into gear it would grind slightly.. no matter what. I brought it into the ford dealer ship today hoping it was just a simple synchros or alignment fix.. guy calls me and tells me the transmission is shot and they have to replace the whole thing ($3,000) and its all free because I'm still under warranty! I'm so excited except that I won't have a car for a week+.

What can I expect from new transmission? Smooth shifting? Will car feel like new?

 

good for you man..I recommend installing an aftermarket shifter after you get your car back...

 

Thanks, that was a thought but I think I want to install a catback before anything.

 

If you like powershifting then I would suggest intalling a shifter before anything else so you don't run the risk of messing something up...but that's just me...

 

Yes I do, however I'm wondering... new transmission means my shifter will be all nice and smooth now won't it? No more getting stuck no more problems?


Any idea how much a shop charges for a shifter install, if not how long it would take for it to be installed since shops are hourly rates? lol

Could I do it myself?

 

Remove the boot, undo the bolts, pry off the stock shifter, apply some RTV, bolt it down, set the stop bolts, put the boot back on, good to go.

Thanks, why might some not agree? I mean if its nice and smooth and never gets stuck if clutch is pushed in no matter what rpms your at then thats fine with me.

 

all those things are true but some people favor other shifters over the steeda tri ax its all about preference. i love mine and it has never let me down. but whatever you get it will be better than stock as mentioned

 

Shop calls back telling me they aren't replacing whole tranny.. just fixing it Do you think its going to be just as bad still? It iwll probably break all over again.

 

if the case ain't physically busticated there's no reason to replace it. don't be silly.
