MM&FF New Edge Cobra vs Mach 1 Shootout!
Well, it looks like the 99/01 Cobra vs 03/04 Mach 1 debate will be put to the test in a MM&FF shootout. Below is a thread that was posted on svtperformance and a similiar thread was posted on the mach 1 registry.
Apparently MM&FF will be releasing the rules in the near future, but I really hope they have different classes because once you start modding the two cars it's pretty hard to settle the debate because people on either side will cry about the other cars mods.
Any thoughts?

If i'm correct the fuel system in a 99 or 01 cobra is a retuen fuel system which a GT has a returnless. There are more parts such as the the tranny and driveshaft in the cobra that can be used for a 03 motor swap. A Cobra is a better choice to do this type of swap. In terms of less things to do it's easier than droping it into a GT.

Alot people do, they sell tons of suspension upgrade stuff that is not for drag racing as well. The IRS is better for everything except drag racing. Not just handling, but it will ride better and not be as jarring over expansion joints or not get bent out of shape by hitting a pebble in a curve.

I can't wait to read about this shoot out because this debate goes on constantly on several boards. I just MM&FF does it so differently than some of the other shootouts they've done in the past. They need to do stock for stock and then cars with pretty much the same mods. I'd like to also see a round where the MM&FF driver does tests on each car so the results are pretty consistant rather than guest drivers being all over the map. Just my two cents.....I just want to see what each car can do without a crappy driver screwing it up.

So much bashing on IRS cobras... Fact of the matter is that until you spend a few grand on your rear end an IRS will outhandle a live axle and be more comfy to drive. That being said, once you've made the expensive mods to the live axle it'll handle waaaaay better than the IRS. I've done it... a couple times. The IRS launches way better on the street than it does on an improved track (I've seen an 03 cobra with DR's and skinnies lift the front wheels at launch on the street) but if you launch hard on the 1/4 mile tracks you might just snap a half shaft. I've snapped 2 on the street.
If you spend a few grand fixing all the problems wtih the IRS it's not a lot better than it was when you started. It'll be stronger and get less wheel hop but you have to go pretty far to make it really handle like a slot car and you still have nowhere near the rear grip of a torque arm setup.
I'd bet the machs will clean up. They all make more power stock than the 99-01 cobras did, they have solid axles and they weigh less. Cobras are nice but they're not the big fish in a little pond that they used to be. The mach is the new sherriff in town.
