XBOX360 vs PS3
ok... well... I wanna know what everyone here knows about the 2...
A few years ago I bought PS2 over XBOX...
because...
PS2 controllers were 10,000x better then XBOX controllers
PS2 Had Grand turismo games
PS2 Had Grand theft auto games
Now I really care less about specs... I occasionaly play video games... But I don't want to regret anything...
Should I go with the 360? Or wait awhiles for the PS3 price to drop? Why?
I haven't bought any games in a long time and I have no idea what games on on each platform no more...
Basicly, the big thing is what games there are for each and cool features...

there are some extremely great racing games on 360. i cant speak for the PS3 cause everytime i tried to play it @ the store it would freeze in like 10 secs of playing. the Wii is really fun. i bowl on one of the games it comes with and i have pulled muscles in my back from it. so it does give you a workout

I would say without a doubt that 360 is, and always will be a better console than a PS3.
But right now I am a bit upset/ displeased because Im getting the red/ orange lights of death.. I got one of the first shipments, so it is a known problem.. I've contacted support, and hopefully it'll be taken care of..
Either way.. Still 360 FTW.

I am referring to the motion sensitivity, it's really the only thing that the 360 doesn't have and it is available in the PS3 and Wii...

I have always been a Xbox fan, imo the Xbox blew away the PS2. Games looked better, I loved the small S controllers for the box way better than the originial box ones.
I think the PS3 is probably a better console now but for the difference in price and the fact that it will take a year or more for game makers to tap the full potential of the PS3 I would say get the 360.
Imo the big + to the PS3 now is the blueray, but if you dont have a 50"+ HDTV you wont see a difference between the 1080i 360 and 1080P PS3. But if you want you can drop $200 on the HD-DVD drive for the 360 for the HD movies. I did and its awsesome on my 51" Hitachi and my 37" LCD flat panel.
I have a 360 and its great, graphics are awesome, game selection is getting pretty good. 360 is getting the Grand Theft Auto series and they alredy have Saints Row which is a GTA copy. Both get NFS games, both get Madden, Tiger Woods, and pretty much all other sports games.
And in closing...........
Forza>GranTurismo
Halo>All
And lastly you can get 360s online with rebates, free games, and all kinds of stuff so its even less than normal store price. YOu may even be able to pick up a used or refurb 360 at the game stores in the mall.

I would not buy either system based on the technology. You have blue ray and HD dvd but no1 knows whats going to take over if any will. I have a Mini disc system from Sony where is this technology now. We as consumers will decide whats going to replace the DVD it may not evern be any of the two formats mentions just look at sonys Mini Disc .
The 360 is a flexible system and they can add features as needed. If you have Live and recieved update you will notice you have 1080p option now. The best system for me might not be the best for Greg. The most important thing to consider is what type of games you like to play. Lets look at the past to predict the future.
PS2 well know for racing, platform and RPGs. Gamecube well know for firstparty games like mario,DK,wario,Zelda and Metroid. Xbox best FPS, racing few RPGs. Sport games are not mentioned since they are released for all 3 or at least 2. It all depends on what you want to play if you like kids games get a Wii,platform Mario. Rachet,Dexter, Final Fantasy or GT series get the PS3. If adult games are your cup of tea and just want to pick up the controller go on online and mow down some people will some guns then the 360 is your console.
I dont have time to dedicate to an RPG and playing a game waving the controller gets old but sniping your friend never does. I had a mni lan party with 3 people with snipers only and it was awesome. I think for adults the best system is the 360, kids the Wii and if you want the latest technology the PS3 btw I have a Sony minidisc player that I can sell you as well,Thanks Sony for this paper weight.
Greg if you want to buy a 360 wait as there are rumors that a Black version is due to come out. Microsoft wants to sell 10million 360s so they may bundle the 360 with something like HD DVD,lower the price or release the black version with added features not available on the white one.

One more thing I have relatives that work at Best buy and the Ps3 is broken, do the math how long they have had it since it was released. The only next gen game for consoles out in the market is GEARSOFWAR everyone I talked to says that they cannot put the controller down.

Good thread cause I've been trying to decide the same thing. I've been a loyal playstation customer, but It might be time to change over to xbox 360 cause I'm not paying $600 for a game system that plays blue ray discs....Now if blue ray takes off and the public goes with it then it might be worth it, but for now I'll pass on it.
I also have a sony PSP, I heard you will be able to hook it up to the PS3 and use it as a rearview mirror on racing games. That's pretty sweet.
Venom, do you have any idea when xbox 360 will release the black version?

I have the 360 and love it. Games are great especially Gears or War and Rainbow Six Vegas. Every game thats on both PS3 and 360, they have gotten better reviews on the 360. Plus with the 360, if you want the HD-DVD drive then you can buy and if not, you save $200. You can also stream music, pictures, and video from your PC onto it. If your gonna wait for a price drop though, you might be waiting at least another 2 years.

As far as psp on a PS3 its just a gimmick just look at the Gamecube and gamboy interface. Sure it will be cool but might be like the Maracas from Samba de Amigo on the DC which I have, its cool but what else can I use it for? I have had or played all the game systems some gimmicks are cool like my Xbox Steel Batallion Controller but a rear view mirrow sounds lame. I also like alot of gun games like House of the dead, virtual Cop,Time Crisis so I have alot of different types of guns to use for these but thats the only way you can experince Light guns games so this type of device is necessary.
I currently own Atari,NES,Snes,Saturn,PS,N64,Gamecube,Xbox. I have played with Odyssy,Commadore,Vetrix,Jaguar,Atari series (with cassttes LOL loved Conan)genesis,Nomad etc so as you can see I have been into gaming since the begining and my advise is to to go with the games you like.
I like Xbox because of Halo and only Halo has me coming back for more. I was just playing it last night with my friend and wife, Snipers only if you have not experience Halo 1 with 4 tvs and 3 friends over you dont know what gaming is all about. I like xbox live but theres nothing more rewarding than hearing your friend scream I had you as he took too long to press the trigger to snipe you as you looked at each other zoom in with the sniper. Just look at this and tell me what FPS does PS3 have that will be better http://media.xbox360.ign.com/media/7...l_1757696.html
Sony was suppose to have a Halo killer it was called Killzone and what happen to that. Now they are going to come out with Killzone2 and again its suppose to be a Halo killer but all they have showed is CGI movies and call that actually ingame play but no1 has seen someone with a control moving the character around. I dont trust Sony as they like to use smoke and mirrors plus dont own up to it.
The black version has not been comfired from MS its just rumors but look at this Best buy ad. Some say that the colors were inverted but others say it may have tivo built into it or include the hddvd built in. I have heard sometime end of this month or Jan but all this is rumors.

Cool thanks. I think your right about PSP and PS3 connection being a gimmick. It looks like I'll wait another month or so and probably go with Xbox 360.

Just wait as its to your benefit and dont make up your mind too quickly just yet. If you are not using your PSP that much you should sell it. I have bought stuff I dont use and I end up keeping it when I just should of sold it when it was hot on the market. I think the best portable is a PDA with WM5 , which plays MP3s,movies,games and its your cell plus youll always have it with you . There are many times where Im waiting so I pull out my headset and listen to some MP3s, play some old school Atari games or NES games and sometimes watch a music vid. Portable game consoles should be small, battery efficient and have simple but fun to play games like the Gameboy Micro all those other systems are too big for their own good.

I dunno, i dont have much faith that Blue-Ray or HD DVD will either nudge DVD out of the market.
The only time a higher quality format for audio/video has been accepted is purley because it came with new conveniences.
Think of it.
On the audio side.
Records, flimsy, sound terrible(for the most part), easy to scratch.
So Tapes came out. Why did tapes do well? They are durable, and you can play them in your tape deck in your car. it had NOTHING to do with sound.
CD, Durable, very convenient, ability to skip tracks, etc. The fact they sound better than tape had very little to do with the mass market acceptance.
Then the war of the next format. SACD(high res), vs DVD-A(high res), vs.... MP3(los rez)!!! LOL!!!!!! And what happened with these formats?
Contender # 1!!!
SACD - Sample Rate = 1 bit at 2.82Mhz WOW!, extremly high resolution, requires an SACD player even to play. Must have high end equipment to get full benefit (minimum of 10k invested in audio gear)
Contender # 2!!!
DVD-Audio. Sample Rate = 24 bits at 192kHz! Extremly high resolution, plays on any dvd player, must have DVD-A player to get full benefit. Must have high end audio to get full enjoyment (Minimum of 10k invested in audio gear)
Contender # 3!!!
And Mp3! Sample rate = Pathetic, Resolution = shitty. Ultimate convenience, free most anywhere, can hold all 1000 of your favorite cd's on a player about the size of a pack of gum.
And the big winner?
MP3!!!!!....
funny thing is SACD and DVD-A were truing to duke it out for superiority, MP3 just waltzed in and beat the tar out of both of them, with its low resolution and lousy sample rate.
ULTIMATE CONVENIENCE WINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thats the thing. While a good quality picture is important, it is convenience that really drives consumers to the product. MP3 is a perfect example of this. SACD and DVD-Audio both failed misertably.
So now instead of SACD and DVD-Audio, it is Blue-Ray and HD DVD both which require more pricey equipment and dont offer any added conveniences. It will go the way of Laser-disc (Which was far superior to VHS but never took off cause it was a large highly expencive and clumsy system)
Blue Ray and HD DVD.... Well.... all they require is for you to go buy another big ****ing TV to replace the Big ****ing TV you bought 2 years ago to get full capability. They offer NO added conveniences.
Both are doomed to fail. Simply put, most people are more than satisfied with the cinemagraphic experienced provided by a $200 progressive scan DVD player and a $1,000 tv.
There is no point in considering PS3's Blue Ray Technology, and Xbox's bolt on HD DVD system, when it comes to purchasing the product. You know why? Cause all it will end up being is HD Beta-Max.

I was in the same spot as you Greg. I bought PS2 over Xbox because the only game on Xbox you couldn't get on PS2 that was any good was Halo. Everything else about PS2 was better. I would say go with the 360 though. I've got friends who have both. 360's online is about 10,000x better and their new controllers are pretty sweet. Gears of War is ****in' incredible and Halo 3 is going to be too damn sweet. PS3 will probably have another GTA, but I don't see it really being anything different than 360, and pretty much all the other games are multi-platform.

I would agree with The Ripper. It will be a long time before Blu-Ray and HD-DVD would actually take over the market(if it ever does). For someone like me who has over 300 DVDs and then decide to switch to HD-DVD is kinda dumb because I dont want to spend all the money to replace those DVDs and then whats the point of having a few kick *** looking ones and the rest are standard. I don't feel many people will want to pay the $20-$35 price tag for 1 movie either. Statistics show right now that HD-DVD is out selling Blu-Ray anyways. I have to give Microsoft credit for at least giving people the option to add it on if they really want it.
