The Intenret has leveled the playing field for these sickos. They now have direct access to minors. Combined with the fact that six year old girls watch Disney's "Cheetah Girls" and want to be much older than they really are, well, this is a disaster.

And our government isn't doing anything to stop them.

3 years ago the FBI made a bust on a lawyer a few towns over... he set up to meet a kid from my town...

Feds came in took him away...

Theres only so much the government can do... If the internet was an actual place it'd be bigger then the ****in universe I bet...

Intresting comments.

I'm not sure if you have heard of 2257 laws. In very simple terms if you post a picture on line and cannot prove how old she is, you can go to jail. The US government is investing it's time and spending hundreds of millions of dollars fighting the adult industry and trying to keep this law in place. News flash folks, this law isn't needed - if you post a picture of a nude sixteen year your going to jail no matter what.

At the same time the US goverment is ignoring the two most dangerous aspects of the Internet.
- Pedos on the 'net.
- Spyware. This should be totally illegal and yet zippo is being done about it.

Also, did you guys know that spam has tripled since June? Want to know why? Because the US Government told everyone "We did something to stop the spammers". They passed a silly law, but reality all they did was really make spam legal by outlining what was against the law.

Last year Congress had a big review on the adult industry and the Internet. It was downright scary. One of the congressmen did not use email. Hello? I'm guessing he doesn't have a cell phone either. Another one said that he "uses the email thingy". Do you honestly mean to tell me that these people make up laws about the internet but yet have no basic understanding of how it works? How typical is that.

This isn't about kiddie ****. Its about pedos talking to young boys/girls on the internet... actual interaction...

The myspace/chatting ect by kids SHOULD be monitored by parents. Its not the websites fault that a 13 year old girl got raped and murdered... its a sad thing, but its the stupidity of the parents and of that child. Yes its wrong ect..

But #1, what posesses some of these kids to tell these peole where they live? What school they go to? Their names? Phone numbers? ect.

#2 If there is a computer in the house and there are kids getting on it..why aren't you using something to prevent these kids from getting onto sites that they shouldn't be on? How about x-stop?

If the parents don't know a thing about comptuers..they shouldn't be buying one. Because they need to know how to monitor their kids.

It should be the same thing as real life "Alright son, now don't talk to strangers" ect...

the funny part about that show is the guys that say they have seen the show before and yet they still went to the house. If she says to bring "Mikes Hard Lemonade".....it's a setup.

I wonder if you have children.

Did you parents monitor your every step? Did your parents know that when you told them were spending the night at Steve's house that you were really in the barn down the street all night with Holly, Kerry, and Wendy?

My mother was a stay at home mom. However, I spent my summers at a friend's house. We all had dirtbikes, worked cutting grass and doing landscaping work; We took dirt trails down into town, stocked up on food, and lived in a tent out in the woods. Although I was less than five miles away I rarely saw my parents all summer long.

When I got a car it was more of the same. I remember once I told my folks I was going into work and instead went to see some girl. I ended up getting my license taken away by a cop. The next night I lied again about work and went to see a different girl and ended up totaling my parents car.

Parents can't track their kids 24 hours a day; It's impossible.

My point is our govenment is focusing on one thing and telling the public how they are 'taking care of things" and get neat headlines while the pedos run free on the Internet.

well thats much different...

the computer is in the house and these kids are young...

so all parents have to do is look at what their kids are doin at the computer... check cookies, history, and get a parental program...

We're not talkin about childrenn meeting peds @ the mall... we're talking about kids meetings pedos in their own homes on a computer

Basically what Greg said. And no I'm 18. And beleive me when I was in my TEENS I got away with whatever I wanted. But no when I was younger. I didn't have the privilege however to have a computer in my home when I was a kid..

But being able to go out and do what you please by lying to your parents is completely different then getting on the computer and lying to your parents about stuff. They can actually have control over the computer on you...

Default To Catch THE Predator

Not really on topic (and not wanting to hijack), but it still fits...

To catch THE predator

A spoof of the Dateline feature.

When your sixteen year old daughter goes to her friend's house, the school, or the libary..... You can't check cookies or history.

As for your other commments about the mall.... It doesn't matter where it happens, be it a house, Starbucks, the local mall, whatever. Pedos can now reach out and touch children at will and arrange to meet them where ever. And no one is doing anything to stop it.

Because they can't do anything to stop it. We can't just look at someone and be like "you're a pedo, go to jail now k?" We discover that they are pedos after they try or do something...

hate to tell ya this...

But you can't go to jail for thinking about doing something. You have to break the law to be punished...

So of coarse its always afterward...

How can anyone tell what someone else is thinking?
How can the gov tell whether or not someone is a pedo?

Theres only so much the gov can do... and like I said... theres millions and trillions and numbers with more zeros then thought possible... How could they possibly monitor it all LET ALONE nab someone before the act?

Its something that the parents need to get involved in... monitor what sites their kids go to and limit internet access... That would lower the percentage of child rape per year 1000000x more then anything the government could ever do...

FOR YOUR INFORMATION

the school has limited Internet access AND is monitored

the library has limited internet access AND is monitored
'
and if parents monitored where their kids went... her friends house too would be monitored...

I think you missed my point Greg... I am on your side with how the government can't exactly prevent this type of stuff. But parents can.

Rochards comment about "No one is doing anythign to stop it" is what I was getting at about people just saying 'ok you're a pedo you go to jail" ect. You can't STOP this, its not possible. Regardless kids are going to be harmed. Because you can't prevent the crime, you don't know who out there is a predator.

I mena..these twisted people are from all ranges of society.. for all we know..soemone on this message board can be a pedo, or have the tendencies to it. God knows how many have a nice little vid on their comp that says something like "TEEN girl" or "UNDERAGE girl" with some vulgar words after it.

We are a fairly tight community yes. But think about it..politicians, cops, military people, powerful business men, all sorts of people have committed these crimes..

They aren't preventable.
