Personally I am an LCD freak, but that's neither here nor there.. To me LCD has a brighter more colorful picture.

One thing I do not like about plasma is that it gets hot... Like pretty damn warm, I just don't feel safe with that.. Most say you have to have like 2-4" of space between walls or cabinets to let the heat rise..

Just looks for good resolution, that tv can run 1080i which is great..

Easiest way to tell... Go to bb or cc in your area, look at both types and decide for yourself!

 

That is a fantastic TV at a great price.

Panasonic is normally about 2 generations ahead of every other plasma manufacturer. They last longer, are brighter, and they are just fine for videogames. Hands down, Panasonic makes the finest plasma's available.

I have a panasonic Plasma of the same line that is 2 generations older, it is te 7th gen, i believe that oneis a 9th gen.

Now, keep in mind, that is NOT and HDTV. It is an EDTV.

before you immediatly freak out and throw out the idea of buying it simply because it is ED, i challange you to be able to tell a difference between ED and HD on a 42in TV from over 8 feet away. You cant. That screensize with that resolution is the best yer gonna be able to see. When i got mine, (identical to that one but 2 generations older) it was sitting next to an HD version of the same TV. I couldnt tell a difference. My roomate was with me and asked which i was gonna get. I asked him Which one is HD... He looked at the ED and stated THAT one is HD. He was about 7-8 feet away from the tv.

Watching something like the beginning of Star Wars Ep III on that tv is a real treat too. Looks absolutly FANTASTIC.

Going though the specs, yer looking at a 10,000:1 contrast ratio. That is freakin awesome. You will get extremly vivid sharp images.
LCD normally gets about 2500 to 5000:1 Contrast ratio.
Not all that great.

Ok, so myths of plasma.

THEY DO NOT LEAK GAS AND DO NOT NEED TO BE RECHARGED.

Also, the half-life issue with plasma is almost a non existant one. I believe panasonic Plasma's come with roughly a 50,000 hour half life.

If you use the TV 8 hours a day 7 days a week, yer looking at 2920 hours. Roughly 3,000 hours. That means that the TV will reach Half-life in 16 years of HEAVY use. Probably start to be noticable compared to a new tv around 10 years of heavy use. You will probably have thrown the TV away or sold it before it gets to half-life.

If you want the HDTV model, you need to buy the TH-42PX60U model, not the TH-42PD60U


I paid about 2k for my plasma about a year and a half ago. So far i have nothing but good to say about it. The pic is rediculously awesome. Yes, it is an ED. Do i have buyers remorse? No, actually i would have been annoyed to spend the extra 600 and get the HD when from 8 feet away i cant even tell the difference anyways and my couch is about 12 feet from the TV.

If you decide you MUST have HD, do yourself a HUGE favor and dont go with some no-name brand to save money. Panasonic hands-down makes the BEST plasma TV's, better than phillips, hitachi, zenith, sony, LG, any other brand.

1080i or 720p are nice, but make damn sure you can SEE a difference before chinking out the extra money. Go find an Ultimate Electronics or something and see for yourself.

If i were to go with a larger plasma though, i would definatly get HD, the bigger the screen the easier it is to tell the difference between HD and ED.

 

Oh yeah, and they DO generate heat. like.... a tiny bit... not enough to raise the temp in a room. I wouldnt even be concerned about that unless you plan to recess it into a wall, and even then, ventilation is not really a difficult thing to figure out.

and the panasonics plasma's dont BUZZ at high altitude like other plasma's do.

oh and they look sweet.

And Screen Burn-in is not really that huge of an issue. Ive never had a problem with it. if you play more than a couple hours at a time then just pause the game, change the channel a few times, then go right back to playing.

Ask SpinMedia, i think he has a EDTV Panny Plasma and he loves it. I dont think he has ever had a problem with brun in or anything either.

 

go to overstock.com you can find universal mountings a helluvalot cheaper there than anywhere esle.

 

Be ready to shell out 400-500 for one of those

some of the LCD ones may work, but honestly if yer looking at an articulating wall mount you really dont wanna go cheap when yer looking at a plasma that costs well over a thousand dollars.

The problem with the whole waiting thing is that the next year they will be cheaper and bigger, and the next year as well, and even the one after that. eventually you find yourself waiting 4 years for something you want.

I've got Gears of War hooked up with the components to my ED plasma and damn, yer right, it looks incredible.

Isnt Fear a nextgen game as well? that looks awesome on the commercials
