Cops are to serve and protect....if they think you got something then yea they should search your car to protect others. If your a good person and dont do illegal stuff why even worry about it. Now you do get your young cocky fresh meat cops who want to be "top cop" and pull everyone over and try to make that big bust....these guys you jus gotta deal with them and be co-operative. I used to throw a fit when cops would pull my girl over even tho she works for police, and pull me over when i drove her car due to the windows being so dark...5%. Factory windows. Well i understand now why...to protect them from anything happening. Like say a cop walks up to the car and he cant see inside...i could of been holding a gun waiting to shoot him..it's for their safety. Then I realized most of the drug carries they catch have blacked out windows to hide their identity.

All these cops are doing is trying to protect others and themselves.

I know exactly what your talking about Spin.....I was recently pulled over and when I asked what on earth I did the woman cop litterally made up a story of why she pulled me over.....none of it was true. She said I was going 70 in a 45, however once I started calling her on the facts she ended up just letting me go.

That experience really opened my eyes to how cops can mess with people just cause they can! I also wondered to myself...If I wasn't white and wearing a nice suite and tie...would she have let me go without a ticket??? Really made me wonder about all of those things.

Like i said, usually it's your young guys who are new and are trying to be "Top Cop". When you get the old vetran cop, they are pretty laid back unless you've really messed up.

Spin, they can find a reason if they want to...like the experation stickers on your tags....you get some cops who will pull you over for them being put on at an angle like some kids like to do b/c its cool. They are just setting an example...dont be stupid and be safe and stick to the laws!

jjtgiants, I see them do the same thing around here to younger kids who dont usually know any better and just take the ticket and dont fight back. I got pulled for supposedly racing another car....cop said i was doing very high rate of speed....i asked him how fast was i going and could i see it on radar? he studdered then i asked him...what was the other car i was supposed to be racing?? he was like dont let me catch you acting stupid again behind the wheel and let me go.

yes... a cop can find a reason to pull over almost any car.

But most cops won't pull over and search every car... just the suspicious ones...

so don't break the law... don't worry about it...

ah yes this brings me back to only a few months ago... I had just recently bought my GT and stang00 still had his 99 v6... he had already decided on the next car he was going to buy, so we went at like 11 to the dealership to check it out. Which, apparently is perfectly legal. So we checked it out, and started to leave and a NY State Sheriff (from carmel) drives by (in brewster) and we were like... damnit, we were at the fricken exit of the place. So we sit trying to make our turn, can't, the cop ends up turning around and coming back towards us. He turns around again as we make our right, and gets directly behind us. "First blue mustang pull over to the left, second mustang pull over next to him" (into a parkign lot, over her loudspeaker thing) So, we pull over and park, he comes over and sticks his head in both our cars and look around with a flashlight, asks us whats going on, chris told him he was looking at a car he had basically purchased. the cop kinda asked "why are you trading in your mustang for a honda?" lol... yeah, apparently people had been stealing hubcaps and egging cars in that lot recently, and he was just Serving and Protecting, which was cool.

you know... this kind of stuff is what's going to be the spark that ignites the coming revolution. We've allowed our elected officials to empower local thugs with unconstitutional power and sacrificed the freedoms guaranteed by the first 8 (well...excluding #3) and security of our persons and posessions for the sake of some illusion of personal security from an enemy that is about as likely to affect any one of us as a falling satellite is and it has yeilded the greatest distrust of government and law enforcement we've seen since the Civil War without yeilding a single iota of actual safety that's greater than what we had before the treasonous patriot act was passed.

Tell your elected officials that you're willing to accept the risk of some jack-hole blowing up the plane you're on so you can bring your unopened bottle of Sierra Mist aboard and enjoy it with the fine 1oz bottles of liquor that they sell on the plane and not have some jumpy $18/hr college dropout air marshal shoot you in the back thinking you're mixing explosives.

EDIT: no I'm not being sarcastic... I really think we've made a terrible error as a people in allowing freedom to be sacrificed for the illusion of any real security. He that would sacrifice freedom for security shall have and be deservant of neither.

It's not that easy...At least to hold up in any court. It's called probable cause (pc) and it states that: I believe or have a reasonable supicion to believe that a crime is being or will be committed. The trick is the resonable part. If you stop a car, ask for the drivers perm to seach and they say no,under the law you do not have pc JUST because he said no, however if you go ahead and search and find something you are in the right even tho you really violated his rights against unlawful search. I's a very fine line, and is talked about all the time and I mean all the time. You are also very very limited to where you may search under objection ( he said no). If you find a handgun under the trunk mat, you will have to explain why you looked there, in other words what supicion did you have to reasonable believe there was a gun under that mat. See how that works? Yes, I can make up all kinds of sh@t to say in court, but MOST officer are like myself and are HONEST. I don't F with people just to do it. I know the law, my rights and yours and do my best to do my job...which is to protect those rights...sounds self-righteous..don't mean it to.

People seem to have forgotten that FREEDOM IS NOT FREE.

Not only did the terrorists managed to ***-bag us on 9'11, but they also get to sit and laugh as we give up the most precious thing we have in this country. Our Freedom.

Patriot act = +1 for the terrorists.

The whole idea of "If yer not doing anything wrong you dont have anything to worry about"

Well **** that. I dont deal drugs, i dont do terrorist ****, i dont steal, all i do is strangle hookers and soon they will even outlaw that. But i dont want the goddamn government in my business listening to my calls.

They had a perfectly well laid out method to use surveillance. now they can target anyone for whatever****ing reason they want.

Anybody wanna place a bet on the scenario:

We Win. We beat the terrorists.
Will the government...
A) dibolish the patriot act
B) Continue to use that stronghold and focus it against american people

personally i dont think there is **** that the government has done lately that is good for america.

America = The People
America does NOT = Government.

ok i can rant all day on this so ill go ahead and post and leave this alone for now
huh???

cops can pull you over for any reason... they always could... theres nothing new about it... patriot act has absolutely nothing to do with that...

also... phone tapping or surveillance has nothing to do with it...

and it has nothing to do with terrorism...

If a cop sees a suspicious car he can legaly pull it over... case closed...
