96 Cobras??
How fast are the 96 Cobra's??
There is a guy here in town with one that act's like a total dick, young guy,and I'm wondering if I could take him or not. Kind of a Newb question but what the hell lol |
you having 4.10s
yes... that is as long as he doesn't too 96 cobra = 281 DOHC 32V T-56 tranny nice lil car |
It sound's like he has a few mod's.Sound's like cam's and exhaust.
|
Doesn't a 96 have like 300 hp stock? Yeah dude...you're looking into some trouble with this one. But you do have 4:10's and a tune (I believe) so it could be close. Though I think the cobra would probably win.

race him... that sound like a good race... I only race (well raced) people that I thought I had a chance of losing to... |

race him anyways |
well... 96 cobras ran high 13s stock... if that helps any
|
I've tried to get next to him but he always seem's to turn or something when he see's me getting close. He's one of those Cobra guy's that won't wave at a GT.
Jon I'm thinking Nitrous now LOL |
He's around 18 I think.
|
What's your dyno sheat say? If your pushing around 300 HP you would stand a good chance if he doesn't have gears. If not I don't believe you can win.

I have a buddy that has one with a heavily built motor in his and I would'nt come close to his but I'm not sure about this one yet. |

4.6 Dohc 305hp @ 5800 300tq @ 4800 Stock numbers
Do about 15% d/t loss and he should be at about 259 - 260rwhp Auto, do a 20% d/t loss and he should be at about 244 - 245rwhp :-) I did the math for you. lol |
Nah, I beg to differ. Not a stock '96 Cobra walking him.
Lance, bust his ass dude. Cobras are so overrated man, they aren't the best cars in the world and damn sure not the fastest. |

BTW if he does have mods, it might be just as simple as exhaust. I'd ask around about him, but it sounds like he's afraid of you more so than anything else.

and yah... it is relative... 6spds are geared lower than a t-5 as is the rear:poke: |

greg, FYI:
96-99 cobras came w/ a t-45 5 speed, 3.27 gears, just like(most) gts 03/04s r the only to use the t-56 ;) just a bit of info for ya |
So long as he doesnt have a higher rear end gear ratio it should be an interestng race. If he has 4.10's or higher in the rear he will walk all over you, as those gears really put the car into the powerband REAL fast, and since the early 4v Teksid's were strongest with the mid-high end range, and a redline @ 6800 he can just keep pulling with those.
305/300 at the crank, figure driveline loss in and most 96-98's push somewhere around 265-275 at the wheels stock. If he has a good exhaust, some rear end gears, and a few bolt ons, he should be able to get into the low 13's... With everything I have done on my car im expecting mid-high 12's if I can get the launch down and with some slicks, maybe even lower. And we do have the T-45 Tranny with a weak shift fork on the 3rd to 4th shift...And some IMRC's that can be a bitch if they decide to freeze or anything along those lines. If he has 4.10's he should be expecting to see himself into 4th gear by the end of the .25. And the T-56 makes a huge difference, and not just in gearing. The damn T-56 v the T-45 is about 100lbs heavier. Stock for Stock you do have a slight weight advantage vs the 96. The Cobra weighs in at 3391 lbs v 3347 lbs for the 1999-2004 Mustang GT. Edit: Er, nevermind about that weight advantage, that Mach 1000 adds about an extra 100 lbs. He has a slight weight advantage...3391 v 3447. |

You might have been able to pull off the ignorant last line of your second post if you hadn't shown how much you really know by calculating the drivetrain power loss for an automatic transmission in a Cobra. |

People need to get a clue and move on. Be happy with the car drive and enjoy it. Oh and explain to me how they are soooo overrated? This I have got to hear:poke: |

This I have got to hear:poke: Actually, man people have said Cobras are so great and wonderful and blah blah. Which they are, but they aren't the holy grail. Jealous? Nah, I like Cobras as well as any Mustang. I just don't see the big deal. I'm happy with my cars, no problems there. Just as soon as a Cobra is brought up, some people are automatically going "It'll win!! It'll kill you!". It gets old, no matter who I offend by saying Cobras are overrated, they are. |

Cobra will walk you!" before anything about the cars were discussed, which is why I say Cobras are overrated. |

no1 ever considers all the factors... like heres all i can think of... 1.HP 2.Torque 3.weight 4.power to weight ratio 5.gearing 6.traction so if all you factor in is HP then of coarse a cobra will win! |

You forgot 7. Driver and 8. Mods Like the '89 GT twin-turbo (I believe on street fire vids) that pretty much busts everythings ass. But you hit it right on the head, if its all HP to HP stock plus the same experience drivers, a Cobra will win. |
