Default My 4.6 Guys.. Fairwell (Long)

Well, I sold my car. It is going to be extremely tough giving up the stang that I became so attacted to, BUT...
Its still going to be in the family. Needless to say, my brother will now own my mustang and as for me... As of tomorrow morning, I will own a 2000 C5 Yellow Convertible Corvette!!!!!

First let me get into how this happened. My dad has been talking for a while now about possibly getting one. It is his only chance to get one NOW, hes 50, and he didn't want to wait until he was 65 to get his dream car. So instead, with the help of me selling my car to my brother, who has always wanted a mustang, will be helping fund the Corvette. And it makes sense for me because just like he wants his dream car now, I MAY never get another chance at a corvette. I had to seize the opportunity.

Now I know most of you are saying Im crazy because I am paying for a lot of the car, and its going to be my dads. Wrong, the car will be in my name, its MY car. My dad will be driving it the next 4 years while I am at college, but the furthest he ever goes it like to the bagel shop up the street, lol... and of course I will be home in the summer to take it out - So I told him, I just wanted to make sure that it was MY car since I was giving up my stang for it, and thats exactly what is going to happen. We will only insure the car 6 months of the year, as obviously you CANNOT drive this car at all during the winter.

Now a little bit about the car!

Its a 2000 C5 Yellow Convertible Corvette:

- The car ONLY has 5,550 miles on it! This guy never drove the thing. Only in perfect weather, which is awesome, it looks like its right out of a showroom

- It has 2 factory upgrades. The Z51 package and the Sport Transmission (Touring/Competitve Modes)

- Chrome Wheels with a Brembo rotors and brakes upgrade

- Interior is basically all the same.

I am soo excited I cannot even tell you. Any most of you are also asking yourself, well, when you get out of college, WTF are you going to drive? I will most likely end up leasing a car for a while until I can get enough money to grab a stable DD car. The Corvette like I said will only be insured 6 months of the year, and making it a DD is practically worthless. The car is EASILY worth about $44K, but the guy advertised it for 32K, and my dad did some negotioations, the price is very fair, so the guy didn't drop much, but I think my dad got him to drop about 2K, better than nothing.

My brother, who will own my car is still only 16. He has his permit and will get his lisence next February. He is going to register here and will make a username which I will let you guys know what it is. Ill give him my sig, so you know its him!

As for me, I just wanted to say fairwell to the 4.6 MF Members, you guys are awesome. I am definitely 100% still going to be around the forums and post and whatnot, but I am also going to be active on one of the corvette forums too! I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who help me learn about my car, and helped me make decisions.

I get a new start now, a new project... Its going to be amazing. I definitely won't go crazy with the car, and I won't have the money to do anything right away. I just want to add an exhaust, short throw, and a few other things down the line, but thats going to be it. I need to pay off my portion of the car this summer, which won't be bad at all, but that means I got to get money for the exhaust and whatnot.

Anyway, Im dragging on. As of tomorrow morning, we are going to put a deposit on the car, and it will be at my house Tuesday!
I am now a Corvette Kid, lol. I just have to find a way to put up with all the negativism that will come my way now, because 18 year old kids are NOT suppose to be driving Corvettes. But I don't feel that bad because every other kid I know has a car costing more than the Vette, just not as nice, and unlike me, they are all stuck up.

Thanks guys! Ask questions, comments, whatever.

-Mike

HAHAHA, thanks a lot guys I appreciate the comments.

Yea I know right, "Corvette" and you can see the dollar signs in their eyes. Well I can't be too concerned right now, I am just really excited and overwhelmed. My dad has been talking about doing it for a while now, but I never actually thought it would happen. It is still a dream.

I know the performance parts are VERY expensive, I just hope the car continues to stay in tact, I heard replacements are not cheap either. Because to tell you the truth, I probably won't do to much performance, especially right off the bat because I will have no money anyway. But I plan on doing a full exhaust as soon as I can, short throw, tuner, and thats pretty much it. Then maybe down the road I will dive into some engine work.

And funny thing is, I told my dad when he first starting talking about it that I would want an 03' Cobra... But he is putting money toward it too, so that wouldn't make sense for him. Then I asked myself, come on... Another Mustang or a VETTE? And I think I made the answer clear.... May be once in a lifetime chance, I know it is for most people, so I took a step up to the plate and here we are

Its going to be pretty cool since I still have my first car, and first mustang in the family and opening that garage to see a beautiful yellow corvette and along side it a amazing white GT stang. Pretty unique garage right there, haha.

Anyway thanks guys, I will let you know how it goes and I will post pictures shortly!

2k1tbgt: Getting a Vette too? And yeah, its sucks I just put my full LM1 exhaust on my Stang and now its my brothers, lol. I am going to miss the sound A LOT until I can get a full exhaust on the Vette

Just to make you even more excited...

One of the guys that I know own's one of performance shops around my area. He has a 99 C5. Stroker 383 LS1 based. Procharger F-1C putting down 730+RWHP. Runs very low 10's on BFG DR's, traps at about 145.

Still gets 25mpg highway and driven somewhat regularly.

Like I said, just imagine. Hey, never hurts to dream!

Thats nice, but I still vote cobra! boo c5, but hey its your choice
I would gladly take a twin turbo cobra over any modded corvette except maybe a c6 z06 maybe but probably not just my opinion

Haha, wow now you really got me excited. Those are some nice numbers, but all that good stuff is going to have to wait.

And, yea ok, Cobras are very nice, they are fun to mod, they put down a HELL of a lot of power... But we are just talking about a different league of a car here.

If you were offered a Corvette, I don't think anyone would turn it down.

Plus mines got the Z51 Package, which they say makes it faster than the C5 Z06 too, which is pretty nasty. Obviously the new Z06 is in a league of its own though, haha.

Yeah man, that "Corvette tax" is killer! Should've stuck with a blue oval. Congrats though.

sorry but I cant see a 6 year old corvette costing a few grand less than a brand new 2006 corvette. I think 32k is a good price for the miles, but its just a corvette. Like mustangs, you see vettes everywhere. You can get one for mid 20's that has decent(normal) mileage.

edit: I just did a KBB check and private party value of your exact car(minus the slight upgades) is high 20's....high 20's. Don't spend over 30 grand for that car. Yes vettes rock and youd love it, but hold out and get a 6 spd vette with about 20k more miles and pay thousands less

Yea we could pay thousands less, but like you said it would have 20-25+ K miles on it. This car only has 5,500. Thats crazy, and thats exactly why my dad wanted to pick it up so fast because of the milage.

Plus the car is SPOTLESS, this guy took such good care of it and barely ever drove it, looks like its right out of a showroom.

So I think the price is pretty fair.

PS - We are only paying 29.5K for it, the guy advertised it as 32K, so basically we are stealing it, just like my mustang. Paid 11.5K for my mustang, and it was easily worth 15-16.

So even at that with 5,500 miles, for 3-4 grand less we could get one with about 30K, but I think the 5,500 is well worth it. Plus, not to many people in my area selling Vettes this nice, this guy lives 15 minutes from us.

no man, its more than that. Look up kbb(have you even done that yet??) itll show you that this exact car(I dont care how "spotless" it is) is worth in the ballpark of 27 grand. You are NOT stealing this. I'm not tryin to rain on your parade, because I did the same thing. 2 yeras ago, I paid right at 20k for my 03 GT with 13k miles. I thought it was a good deal, but after doing research, it was worth a good 2k less. If you've already bought it, fine, just enjoy it. But I tell you what, after 6 years, with less than 1,000 miles per year, this car sat on it's tires a LOT. And cars sitting, not moving for a long period of time tend to screw up the oil and gas mixture and whatnot. Get it checked by a mechanic

Look up KBB, for that car, that year, with those miles, the miles don't add to the price.

oh and its not a steal. a steal is getting it for a few thousand less than average. Youre paying a few thousand more. that guy charging 32k originally was wishful thinking

Yea he just had the oil changed and everything, so we are good there. My dads mechanic is going to come over as soon as we get it and check it out also.

I appreciate the heads up, but it is pretty much a done deal at this point.

Weird how cars like this depreciate value as they get older, for a period of about 15 years, then become classics and raise value to about double the original price, lol.

I just went to see it again, we will be getting it Monday night. The guy told us how people pretty much go into shock when you launch the car off of a light because they just can't comprehend how quick and how far ahead of them you are already.

He said "I've NEVER lost" LoL.

My understanding of the Z51 is that it is a Sport Suspension Package, not a Power Package. =/

Yea I must have been pretty tired last night a 1 in the morning moving around my words.

What it said was the Z51 Package makes the regular C6 just as fast as the C5 Z06.

LoL, close but no cigar... Well anyway, its still hella fast

Anyone know what kind of numbers these put down stock to the Wheels? Is it 350 to the wheels?
And what kind of times they run... I heard about 13.1 Stock with a Z51 Package.

Really sorry to hear that... I couldn't even imagine.

But yeah, its pretty cool to be doing something like this with my dad and having us both be extremely happy. Im glad for him too, because he will get to drive it even though its my car, and its going to make him really happy and he has always wanted this.

So it works out both ways!
