New cars under 20k?
So me and my girl will be in the market for a new car for her in the next few weeks or so. Her credit is not so good so i know that if she tries to get a car out on her own, they will rape her on the interest rate! I have pretty good credit, so i told her that i would co-sign with her so that she could get a decent rate! She just wants something she can move around with and that won't give her any problems! Something were she won't have to pay more than $350 a month! She was leaning on something like a hundai tiburon or something like that...Thanks for any help...

Get a new Ford Ranger 4cyl with no a/c and a stick shift for 11K(I got mine for $8500 out the door new in 2003)....then put a turbo 2.3 ford motor in it and have more fun for the same $$. ha ha. My girls sister has a G6...it seemed alright. I dunno if those are under 20k.

This is the same place that I am at right now as I need a new commuter car. There are lots of things out there, but my favorites are the Mazda 3's and the Jetta's.
You can get a Jetta 2.5 Stage 1 which includes leather and a sunroof for $18,500 plus fees for a 5 speed. They lease in the mid $200's depending on how much you put down. The Mazda 3's are about the same price with discounts.
But, here is some advice. Do NOT co-sign for your g/f. This is a HUGE mistake...trust me. She is your g/f and not your financial responsibility. Lots of people make this mistake, so don't do the same thing. Here is why:
1 - When you co-sign, it is on your credit report just as if you were making the payment. This means that if you need to finance something for yourself, your credit score and rating is affected.
2 - If she does not pay, you have to. Odds are the loan will outlast the relationship. Sorry, but that is the truth.
3 - If she has bad credit or credit issues and you co-sign, they will use the person with the lowest credit score to determine the interest rate. To think otherwise is a misconception. Call a bank and ask for youself. You could be Donald Trump and it won't matter.
4 - If she needs a cosigner, she needs to make more money or fix her credit and buy a car she can finance on her own.
As a rule, I NEVER cosign on cars for ANYONE and I would NEVER, EVER do it. I have turned down siblings....even my brother two years ago. He was a FB player at ND and was starting his first job out of college. His first job paid $60k+, but had no credit history. I helped him by helping him find a bank that would work with him....the dealer told him he needed a co-signer, which was wrong. Had I cosigned for him, I would be stuck with that on my credit report which might have prevented me from buying an investment property last year.
I would...and do, cosign for house loans. Why? Because I can always take the house away and sell it....and make money. I did this last year and turned $30k just by signing paper. Credit agencies look at these kind of moves as investments...cars are not.

it could cost a small fortune

yeah i agree with what mt's#1 said.
tell your girl to look at the scion tc, my girlfriend just picked up hers a week ago and its actually very nice. its made by toyota so you wont have to worry about having problems with it and they start at $16,300.
