Default CB Radio

Alright dudes, its time for the big one.

As you all know I'm a big fan of the CB Radio System, I have a up-to-date modern one installed in my car, noise canceling systems, speakers, adjustable "37 inch max height whip antenna, digital display transmitter ect ect ect.

Now the general opinion is that a "CB doesn't belong in a Mustang," and everything, and I get a lot of **** from you guys about it (not so much in real life, but on the boards I get raped about it.) Its a good piece of equipment, informational on traffic reports, cops, weather, detours, construction ect ect ect... and every now and then its a good souce of entertainment. (Since I live in Tolland, CT, everything is a five-or-six exit drive, movies, stores, auto-mechanics).

So I just wanted to know the general opinion with it being on the car. I spent close to $280 on prefecting the system that I like and works well with the car, so regardless of what you say its going to go on the Mustang. So put your two cents in, lets hear it.

Its not a matter of where the antenna is, its the principle of using the thing. The antenna is the same height as the stock AM/FM radio, except its mounted on the back.

i've given you a hard time about it before but if you like it then who cares?

here where i live, that thing would serve no purpose. cops dont use them anymore, no stores or mechanics or anybody has them. truckers are the only ones that i know of and who cares to talk to crazy hillbillys while driving down the highway? if you live in a little redneck town where people still use them then whatever floats your boat.

even if i lived in a place where i could use it i would still never put one on my car but thats just my opinion.

i really want to see this picture of the antenna

I'm gonna hit you in da mouth... since the ford Mustang trunklid isn't metallic, I couldn't place the antenna mount on the car unless it was A. Drilled, B. Glued, C. Adhered...

So after multiple attempts and methods of mounting the item, I finally moved it behind the spoiler so that the tape doesn't show as much, unless you're really looking for it. just took these about 10 minutes ago

For all those who can't estimate length, the antenna is about 3 inches longer than a stock AM/FM.

The bases are all the same... If I wanted to I could cut the 37" antenna down to whatever height I would want it at... but the base remains the same. I really don't notice it all that much, the mat-black matches the silver/black theme.

*Edit

If you dont want a wide-base, you drill, but now a days you drill into the car you kill the resale value, so the companies started making them with wide magnetic bases... its covered with a rubber bottom so it doesn't scratch the paint.

I don't understand, its the same length as the AM/FM radio without the wide base.

It is my car, and I like my damn silver tints, which is why I said earlier that I wasn't going to remove it regardless... and I've done the CB/Valentine 1 debate many a time and am still pretty hardcore on it.. why spend $350 for a radar detector that tells you a mile in advance when one call over a radio gets you cops up to 40 miles away?

I wouldn't mind the CB so much if it wasn't for the HUGE antenna and the big handheld speaker mounted on the dash. If it were more subtle...then I would probably be looking into getting one. But, the fact is that it isnt subtle at all and it is basically impossible to make it that way...so I'm going to have to go with a no on this one.

The only people I ever see with CB's are truckers and Hillbilly's and the old wierd guy you alway's see with about 6 antennas all over the car.

Do you really drive that fast that you have too know that a Cop is 40 miles away??

Now if this was the 1970's I'd say why not but it's 2006 and they just look out of place on newer car's.

I don't find it large and obnoxious at all, you can't see the base of the antenna because its hidden under the spoiler, and you can't really tell that its a large whip since its about the same width/length as a AM/FM antenna.

It doesn't bother me much at all up here, and it doesn't bother anyone that I know. Its not as obnoxiously large when you see it real-time, and it does have its advantages.

By the way its all temporary, I don't drill into the car, so the microphone holder is velcro'd.

Hahaha-- alright alright I think this has run dry.. thanks for the opinions though, I might go ahead and by a 27inch (which isn't as wide on the base) for looks.

Again, thanks for the opinons though.

no offense buddy but no one is going to agree with you on this one, but at the same time - who the hell cares what someone else thinks, right? its your car, more power to you

anyway, ins't the CB like having a forum live in your car? for entertainment, to listen to others talk and being able to respond and take part in the conversation? that part sounds cool... too bad the giant flag pole and pancake sized receiver mouth piece thingy are unsightly requirements.

I dont know if this is even possible, or how much it would cost, but would it could you get one of those little fin antennas that go on the top of the rear window like on BMW's for the GPS?

Dude you know it is bad when Greg is making fun of it lol.

How about this...get XM radio or something and then use your factory antenna somehow or get a CB antenna that looks a little more factory and have it in the existing spot? I don't know if that is possible but anything is better than that. With technology these days there HAS to be a smaller CB antenna out there somewhere?
