Cobra 2000R

Cobra 2000R
I believe the engine is 5.4L N/A, correct? Is it DOHC? This is extreme, but say you wanted to build the ultimate N/A mustang, what engine and stuff would you use? Would have to fit in a 99-04, say a GT for a model. Would a 5.4L fully built out N/A be that much better than say a Cobra engine that was fully built for N/A? I'm talking everything from cams, to intake manifolds, to headers, to heads, to everything, even higher compressions.

I've driven the 2000R and it's a beast. An ex-friend of mine has one. Stock rating was 385bhp, his put that out at the wheels right out of the box. After a tune and some bolt-on's he was dropping 440rwhp on motor. The handling wasn't in line with the power but it did handle really well for a Mustang in general. The IRS is too weak to take the power of that 5.4. Dropping to 3rd gear and flooring it at freeway speeds would slam your head into the seat so hard it hurt. Look closely at the 2000R intake... that's the kind of plenum volume you need to feed a high winding 5.4. Not the most efficient way to make power.
The 5.4 is a torque monster. The 4.6 is a pretty nicely balanced engine. Making a 5.4 a 4V gives you really high RPM potential in the top end and makes a big HP difference as long as the intake is up to the task. There is no comparison between a 4.6 powered car and a 5.4 car of equal build level. It's really startling.
I'm doing the 5.4 2V swap but it's going to make little more than 325rwhp. That's all I want. With the torque it puts out I should be good for mid 12's. If I could legally, I'd drop in a supercharged 351 and be done with it.

go to pick and pull, find an F150 or navigator, remove engine, bolt into your car, make it work, done.
the bottom half bolts right up. The intake and exhaust are the hard part and there's a lot of custom work to be done for it to fit under most hoods.
If you're serious about doing it, then look up 5.0&SF's nov2004 and jan2005 issues.

If i was to build a n/a engine it would have to be a pushrod. Mod motors blow making power n/a...
I'd put a properly built 5.4L 4v n/a motor up against a 331 or 347 stroker 5.0 motor any day of the week. The old Montra is true...there's no replacement for displacement, except technology.
550rwhp/ 500+rwtq is possible...and just the beginning for a stock displacement 5.4L mod motor. And the motor family is young. Given time the DOHC will if not already surpass their pushrod counterparts and predecessors. That is if direct injection and homogenous charge compression ignition engines don't replace everything first.
Each has their place. OHC (particularly DOHC motors) are a Turbo's wet dream, just based on their intrinsic properties. So don't count the Mod motor's out n/a.

Why quit with a 5.4? Go V10 BABY YEAH!!!!
http://www.autofieldguide.com/articles/050401.html
Forget the little V8, go for a V10. 430hp non added.
----------------
With 430 hp at the rear wheels in this, admittedly, rough state of tune, the 557-lb. (dressed) 351 V10 is the most powerful naturally aspirated engine in the Ford stable, and one with plenty of room for development. Coleman and Byrd, for example, would love to develop 3-valve heads, and explore the gains that can be made with dual (intake and exhaust) cam phasers. "You could phase the cams for a broader torque curve [currently 440 lb-ft at 5,500 rpm], and still stretch it out toward the 7,500 rpm limit to get the horsepower," says Byrd. "There's a whole bag of tricks we could throw at it."

mod motors have a lot of advantages in making HP (maybe not torque) from what I can see. overhead cams and no pushrods mean a straighter path for the air to travel and a lot more RPM potential without having to resort to extreme spring pressures, 3V and 4v's get spark plugs centrally located for more even combustion and 4V's get a hemi head (small dome but it is domed) and more flow than they know what to do with.
Besides, it must say something that given the option Ford went to a completely new engine design from a proven performer that could have been left in the line. Having 260bhp from a 281 out of the box is kinda nice too, 5.0 owners had to look forward to disappointing HP out of the box with the same basic fuel burn and 21 more cubic inches.
If I have a complaint it's the intakes. They just cheaped out and designed crappy plastic junk. A little more investment in the intake materials and design would have made a lot fewer unhappy owners.

all that crap is dumb - wuts the point - unless your wanting to run under 10.0 then the mod will do you right - I mean mods run 8-9s all the time 2 - theres no point in putting in al lthat motor that you couldnt take advatage of in a street car anyway - forge your 4.6 bottom end - then procharge it - then your done - crank up the boost - hell 14lb will put in the 10's what more do you want?.. I wish I had the money people spent on pointless mods... geez I mean my ultimate goal is a low - mid 10 sec car and thats barely streetable - and probaly isnt for most under 10's and your a moron to take that on the road.

it will probably cost you an arm, leg, and yer firstborn son. If you google V10 Mustang you will find some links with conversion parts for that. So, im sure it can be done
