Default Mustang Problems

For some reason my Mustang has been idling from 500-1300 or more and sometimes hangs up at 1700 if I take it out of gear going down the road. When it idles at 500 and I go to drive it, it bogs down and I have a hard time even starting out in 1st. When it idles high and I go to drive it, I can almost dump the clutch in 2nd gear it starts out that easy.

I took it to Ford today and they say they're going to replace some IAC or something that controls the idle but nothing else, and then they will try to find out why it bogs down. They said the computer is not throwing any codes...

Anyone have any idea what's wrong?

IAC is know to cause problems in our cars...but normally not THAT bad, you shoulda just bought a new one coulda taken u 20 mins to change....

hopefully your iac is really screwed up, if not it sounds like a computer problem to me, when i installed my shift light, i had to splice one of the cylinder wires, and the connection came apart and the car was giving symptoms like you described....but like i said, just hope that it IS your Idle Air Controle valve

I had similar problems with my automatic, but not that bad. I just kept my stock IAC, disassembled it, cleaned it thouroughly with carb cleaner and havent had problems since. Hopefully this new one for you should fix it also.

but see the idle control doesnt effect it when ur driving and I have problems of it bogging down when I drive so I'm worried about bigger problems.

Describe your definition of bogging down.

When I let out the clutch it seemed like I had the e-brake on. Just no power at all.

Ford replaced the IAC and unfortunately the car runs how it's supposed to now (atleast as far as I can tell, I bought it used and it hasn't been running right the whole time). I say unfortunately because the car used to idle weird, but when it idled low it had no power and when it idled high it was race time. The high to low ratio was probably 10:1. Most the time it ran great. The Ford guy said it shouldn't be able to, but I could start out in 2nd gear just fine (this is a V6). I started driving on a F-250 where you dont use 1st unless ur towing, so I figured the car would be similar. When it was running "good" I could start out in 2nd gear without slipping the clutch, I could hardly tell a different between 1st and 2nd. When it wasn't running good though, it lacked power in all gears.

Now with the IAC and running "normal" I have to start out in 1st like (i'm assuming) the rest of u v6er's do. Before the fix I could start out in 2nd gear better than I can now start out in 1st. But it's not as bad as when the car bogged down so I'm assuming this is normal.

It was like I had a V8 there for a while on the low end, now I'm suffering through the V6 (can't wait til I get enough money for a 5.0 swap )

I wish I had another V6 to drive so I could tell if mine is normal now or not, but I sure to miss all the power that came with "not running normal".
