Default mustang taillight bulb

lol this is probably a dumb question but anyway i took out my rightand left taillight to get some crud out. i took out the bulbs and put them back in when i was done. now the 4 bulbs that are closest to the trunk are not working. i thought i broke the bulbs but when i put in new bulbs they still wouldn't light up. anybody have a solution to this.

Did the crud look like peanut butter? That is a conductive grease that provides a better connection from harness to bulb. It also acts as a way to secure the bulb.
