front end rattle/popping s197
Hey fellas! I have been trying to figure this out for some time and I am just about suicidal at this point. I figured this may be worth a try! A few months ago I started noticing a popping noise in the front driver side of my s197 mostly when turning the wheel but sometimes when hitting dips in the road. Like when making slow turns, or backing in or out of parking spots. I have a 2014 5.0 w 40k & full eibach pro street kit. Only sitting about 1" dropped up front.So i took it to a mechanic and had a diagnostic done. They told me it was coming from the top of the strut. Likely the mounts. They wanted $750 to replace my strut mounts!!?? wow. so I ordered two new oem mounts and replaced them for $150. The originals didn't look bad. "didn't fall apart" and ball bearing were all still in there. The popping noise went away for a moment. By the time I got to work the next day It was back. WTF!! After some research and another afternoon checking everything under the car I purchased new sway bar end links. I replaced those and popping noise went away completely but was replaced by a rattle noise on the driver side that almost sounds like plastic rattling around. "ITS NOT" I checked! Just ordered new ball joints as Ive read they tend to go out prematurely and got tie rod ends as well just cause they were cheap and ill need an alignment anyway. could any of this be caused by it just needing an alignment? Im sure it does but would like to get rid of the noise before I do it so im not having to do it multiple times here. TBH nothing looks bad under there. The car has terrible bump steer currently also but still drives straight fairly easily. Any help is appreciated!
