Angry Trans. troubles.. Need some opinions please!

Well, it was just a matter of time. Was out at the track Friday night and the trans. decided to pop something. Just from trolling around and talking with some friends I believe that it popped the 3-4 fork, just wanted to get some more opinions. BTW, this is a T45 trans.

I'd been having issues with getting the car into 3rd on hard shifts, the clutch is fine and adjusted right, went into every other gear perfect and it didn't feel like a synchro problem.

Was on a pass, shifted from 1-2 then went to shift into 3rd and it just made a slight pop. Pulled the car into neutral then tried to get it into 3rd and there was nothing there, put it in 4th, same thing. Slowed the car down and went to 2nd no problem at all. I've got 1st, 2nd, 5th and reverse, 3/4 is just gone. The car just revs like it's in neutral position while in 3/4 selection.

The trans. has no rattles, grinding or odd noises, actually drove it home from the track with no issues.

What do you guys think?

If we're in agreement on the fork issue, should I just go ahead and put a pro-motion cryo fork in it?

Thanks for the input.

No getting the gears to actually lock leans me to fork problems. Are you doing to keep it a T45 car?

If it's fairly simple (like a fork) then yes, I plan on keeping the T45. If it is something more complicated, I'm not sure yet. I'd most likely end up keeping the T45 and upgrading everything to the ProMotion setup. A TKO would be nice, but I don't have that kind of money at the moment.

You think the 3650 is a better trans. or something?

I'd ditch the T45 if its more complex than a fork.

T45 cant handle as much torque as the 3650.

You may have to do a tailshaft swap because the t45 is mechanical and 3650 is electronic speedo.

As far as I know the 99-01 T45's have electronic speedo, the earlier models were mechanical.

If I have to replace the transmission it would probably get a TKO, but it would more likely get a ProMotion rebuild with gear ratio changes and CF synchros..

You are correct, ours have the mechanical speedo. My t-45 isn't bad, I eventually want to upgrade it but I need some power first.

3650 is a better trans. Not a hell of a lot but a bit. I'd just fix your shift fork and get back to the business at hand.

Completley agree, it just wouldn't be that worth it.

I take it that means you agree with my assessment of the issue? Broken Fork?

yep... if it was a syncro you'd have very specific other problems (not being able to put it in gear at all, grinding, etc...). If it was a shaft you'd probably not able to move the car. Only part left is a fork. Man I love manual transmissions. super easy to diagnose.

Yeah, that is more than likely the problem. I have had my share trans problems and learned alot. Not trying to say I'm smart ot anything.

Welp, got it done! We did all the work (other than changing the fork) ourselves. Needless to say I feel pretty good about that, that's a good feeling to do it all yourself. Learned alot and saved a bunch of $$ too.

Changed the rear main seal while we were in there, I also changed the oil filter housing gasket and the pinion seal while everything was apart.

Back on the ground!

Gotta get a couple of things buttoned up, but it's pretty much good to go for NMRA this coming weekend!
