Question 31 spline axle help

I am working on 2000 mustang gt with nitrous. My next process will be to upgrade the axles and diff in my car. I am thinking on going with the 31 spline axles and diff. One of the shops in my area said that they are getting the 31 spline carriers new and getting the 31 axles from junkyards in the area from 8.8 exlporer, mountianeers etc. Will these work on my car or what is best ones to get. Another option i a differential from a cobra. I am wanting to get a good set up that i can launch hard out of the hole and will keep up with alot of abuse. Also does anyone know what stock mustang axles are good for and if i need to change, what is a good one to get.

People break stock 287 splines with bolt on cars and sticky tires. Then there are guys like me who have lots of passes on a stock rear end and it holds up fine. Its a crap shoot really as to when they will break. I saw a non-PI headed 96 GT with just bolt on's and Nitto Drags break his axles at the strip. So you just never know.

You can't use those axles as they are a different length. Moser, and other have what you need to upgrade to 31 spine or just toss in better 28 spline ones.

You "can" drive with a spool, but unless its a full blown drag car I would not do it. Have you ever had a car with one? Its cool for 5 mins on the street thats it.

I would go with the Eaton unit or Detroit True Track if you really wanna spend more money over a Ford 31spline unit. You can get the Ford unit and add the carbon fiber clutches from the 03-04 Cobra to make it bit harder.

You're best bet with a diff would be the Cobra track-lok or a TrueTrack.
