aluminum block years

Default aluminum block years

im wondering all the ford cars that came with the aluminum 4.6 or 5.4 (was there a 5.4 aluminum?) block?

most years of pre-01 4v cars had teksid aluminum blocks. Very very early examples are pretty weak and not teksid. The only aluminum 5.4 was stuffed in the GT and was set up for dry sump oiling and lacks a place to put a normal oil pump.

pretty sure the explorer had an aluminum 4.6 block for a set of years, u know what years by any chance

EDIT: damn i just love the look of ur car. the dark blue with the black rims is very professional looking IMHO

96-98 cars had the Teksid block. 99+ had WAP blocks. As for other cars, all 4V cars had Teksid blocks from 96-98 (not sure on earlier years). Explorers/Aviators only had Aluminum blocks (unless they switched back to Iron, which I doubt). 05+ Mustangs are Aluminum, the Aluminum 5.4 was GT only, though I think FRPP makes a wet sump version, and that's about it. Remember that 03/04 Cobras were the only 4V cars w/ Iron blocks.

any 4.6 explorer should be aluminum block. I've seen Teksids come stock in a pair of 99 cobras but yeah... you got me bassman, they're supposed to be in pre-99 cars. That's just evidence of inventory clearout at ford's engine plant.

ok cool. so the only real advantage to swapping an explorer engine would be to save weight. i can get the same hp as before if i reuse my stang heads and intake correct. and ecu?

Correct. The block doesn't make power, just makes it more useful by reducing weight.

so now i need to figure out if i want to get an aluminum 4.6 and save weight therefore having more available power or a 5.4 and gain 50ft lb of torque .
